This has been one of the more frequently requested game features for a long time now. Not only does it offer another venue for players to express themselves, it adds a whole new layer of depth to WoW. Finally - we can collect souvenirs from our adventures, pieces of furniture, boss trophies, and display them with pride in a space of our own.
Assuming Blizzard still trolls the forums (I’d like to think they do), if they were reading this thread, what would you want to see out of player housing that would really “make it” for you? What kind of furniture do you want to see? Are there any specific features that would appeal to you?
A few things I, personally would like to see:
Armor Stands! Let me show off my transmog sets.
Weapon racks!
A vanity mirror - change your appearance in your bathroom.
The ability to upgrade/expand. It’d be awesome to go from a one-room farmhouse to a full manor, this would really give the system a goal to progress for.
Racial Furniture Sets; While anyone should be able to display pieces from these sets, the recipes should only be learned baseline by crafters of those races. Characters of other races could learn these recipes if they become exalted with that race’s specific faction and buy a recipe ledger from a reputation vendor.
Class Furniture - A soul shard rack for warlocks, displaying the tortured spirits of hapless enemies? A prayer room for Paladins and Priests? A rage room for warriors? A portal room for mages? All of these would both embrace class fantasy and make a home feel unique to the character that lives there. These recipes could be purchased from your class order hall (Evokers could buy theirs in Valdrakken).
Layout options! When expanding, you should be able to select a layout or floor plan you like - alternatively, the ability to manually draw where you want interior walls to be, with a tool to add doors or open doorframes.
Location options? I’m assuming housing will work similar to EQ2, where you could buy a property in a specific location, and each character’s house was contained within an instance. Alternatively, an instanced plot of land in certain pre-selected zones. Maybe a mix of both? A flat in Suramar, or a homestead in Grizzly Hills? A fort in Duskwood?
The ability to let your battle pets free roam around your property.
A stable or mount yard to show off your favorite mounts.
Game sets. Invite your friends to your house, challenge them to traditional chess, Karazhan chess, checkers, maybe even a way to interface directly with Hearthstone? That may be a bit much.
What do you think? Did I miss anything? Is there anything you’d like to see - either a superficial characteristic, or a core feature?
I know what I want and what I expect, sadly Blizzard as a company isnt up to the challenge. I expect to be utterly disappointed in the final product and see housing haters use it as fodder to bash player housing again but with more fervor.
I agree - I expect the base housing to be extremely lackluster, and anything you might actually want to add will be $50 plus in the store. Housing will just be the latest whale bait.
you know the quest to ‘decorate’ the faction embassy? thats what I expect housing to be but on a slightly larger scale. maybe have a drop down menu that allows you to choose one of five dragon heads to display of varying colors.
The teaser made me hopeful I can go back into older raids and do stuff like farm Onyxia for her head to hang on my wall. Id actually enjoy going back into older content to farm them for various decorations.
My want would be some sort of customizable stable as in I choose which mounts are out. Im nearing 700 character mounts and would love to be able to have a few of them out in my housing area.
The idea of renting out a little room at an Inn sounds like the perfect entry point. It gives me an idea - what if you could turn one of your properties into a bed & breakfast? It’d have its own little quests and stories. You could decorate to boost guest satisfaction, build a menu, offer services and amenities. You could even use it to host NPC friends from quest chains past - Fiona, Sassy Hardwrench, Mankrik, there are so many great characters that have fallen by the wayside or have only been seen in minor capacities.
I would LOVE to have a room for building your own platforming/parkour/jumping puzzle courses. There could be an option for people to tour your home, guests could compete in the jumping puzzles you create to get the best times and display them on a leaderboard.
Yes! They could even stash them in old dungeons/raids like they did with the Zul’Gurub secrets. Head into Deadmines, turn over a rock, find a recipe for a replica of Sneed’s original shredder? Finding a secret book in Scarlet Monastery that holds recipes for tailors to make Scarlet tapestries? Blacksmiths could plumb BRD for some sick metalwork recipes. The possibilities are endless.
I fundamentally agree with this. I hate the way FFXIV handles plot ownership, I have a friend who loves that game and he had to wait online in shifts with his guild to get a house. IMO that’s a bit much.
If you can’t spell out naughty words with your furniture then Blizzard definitely screwed up, player freedom here is key to mission success.
I want to be able to move into an existing house in SW, Gilneas and Boralus.
Yes.
3 houses.
One as a homestead, the other 2 as vacation homes, with all 3 having fireplace portals to the SW portal room.
As far as decorating, I want the same aesthetic/look as the existing architecture nextdoor. The frills/extras don’t concern me, other than me using my Stuffed Bear toy at each location.
Perhaps joint ownership between multiple people? Instead of just solo ownership, a group of friends could co-own the house and property? Also, entity like Community and Guild could own much bigger property (eg Apartment, Huge Mansion, or even Castle/Keep). They would contribute and share the cost as well.
I want to be able to choose any location in the game within most reason. Some people will want a house in Argus or the Maw but I can see them possibly not allowing such places.
I want this feature to be affordable for all. I want every player to be able to have the largest house size(assuming we get varying sizes).
Every race’s architecture should be added possibly not out of the gate but hopefully over time(furniture and things included hopefully).
I would like new professions to go alongside this feature as well as a dyeing system, people will want to customize the color of their beds/couches, etc.
I want places outside to display favorite mounts(preferably a backyard and a front yard that’s also fully customizable).
I want to be able to let some of my pets wander around the house freely.
Some services like banks or barbers(mirror as suggested by OP).
