Player Housing: WoW vs FF14

Calling the Garrison player housing is like saying adding shredded cheese to the top of your Hot Pocket is ‘cooking’

That’s strange, why do you have level 25 companion pets when you can fire up Ye Old Pokemon on the DS?

They must have a very good reason not to do it. I’m wary of the consequences to the social / community side of the game by allowing players to sequester themselves even more than they already have been. Layering makes the world seem empty and xrealm phasing means that you have no chance to build friendships, rivalries, familiarities, connections with other players. On top of that, add the queue / portal / summon mechanics and there’s really no reason to go out and navigate the world.

these are great ideas but why direct them into something that will sequester people away from each other while they are in their houses? the more functional and attractive the houses become, the less reason players will find to group in the hub. why not put all these ideas into public projects / quests / challenges?

it is public. professions require you go out into the world, recipes/plans/patterns from dungeons/raids/etc., require you run content. rep vendor items, require you rep up, etc. the whole thing is a positive feedback loop

imagine, you wish to add some feature that is only available from tbc outlands art. the rep vendor for it is aldor or scryer or shattari or netherwing, etc. do you have the rep to buy it? if not, time to get busy. and this holds true for the whole game, every expac, every zone, etc.

oh and making the building of them a profession, like architect, is win-win too.

p.s. it should have its own new dev team. not any existing devs. new folks, who’s whole job is to design and update housing. and pay for the whole thing by selling it as a module to the game available from the game store.

And even as half baked as Garrisons were as PH, they took up an insane amount of resources and dev attention.

Which is why people draw the comparison.

I mean if we’re gunna recruit an entire new dev team, I’d rather they focus on the rest of the game than PH.

Put more effort into class design/tuning. Give every class a MoP Warlock style revamp. Release more dungeons and raids and introduce new features to make M+ seasons actually differentiate from each other more.

the idea is, correctly implemented, it will reinvigorate everything else. a new profession that ignites all the other professions into action, that isnt endgame only, is a positive feedback loop. focus on endgame is ruining everything before it, which in turn is funneling everything into one level and removing the reason to play the rest of the game. thats not good.

will players spend time in their houses? if yes, then the more successful houses are and the more time they spend in them or in friends’ houses , the more it will be to the detriment of the server public life.

well ya cant get recipes/plans/patterns from your house. you cant sell your associated goods, from your house. gotta go to an actual city to do that. the game is huge. this is why it seems sparsely populated. just make some of the most interesting recipes/plans/patterns available from the current hub. it isnt an either or proposition.

Who’s the troll in the Draenei outfit?

You are!!!

Ff14 is amazing. That’s what it comes down to

Eh, not really. I mean people seem to forget that FF14 had to literally be built back from the ground up because it was an initial failure.

Hello, I see you replied to the thread. I agree, I wouldn’t say Square is more competent, I would say Creative Business Unit 3, the group led by the man himself, Yoshi P, is the more competent of the two! That group is basically propping up all of Square right now!

Thanks for your post and have a great day!

i wish people would stop asking for crappy feature that nobody wants. if ff14 is sooo great with its player housing then shouldnt you be there and not here.

stop trying to mess up our game with this pointless feature. i dont want it. nobody in my alliance guild wants it. nobody in my horde guild wants it and nobody i have ever had the pleasure of talking to about this topic wants it. the only people that i see wanting it is the 10 people on these forums.

so if ff14 has it and does it sooo well why are you not there playing house? stop trying to destroy wow with your horrible ideas.

Right, which is why we’ve specified that it’s not so much on Square Enix’s part more than it is Yoshi P’s. However, Yoshi P works for Square Enix so the comparisons are still applicable.

Nah. I play both games.

Well, player housing is a thing MMORPGs provide. Since WoW is now a speed run e-Sport in the eyes of its developers, they see no reason to add basic RPG features.

They’ve literally said they want to add it. It’s just a matter of doing it right.

So hold off on the hyperbole.

He still hasn’t come up with a valid reason as to why player housing is bad nor has he addressed that it still exists in other games and none of the problems he’s talking about occur in those other games. I’ve literally outlined and spelled it out for him but he doesn’t really seem intent on listening.

Housing in ffx14 has great customizations for sure, however plots are hard to find.

Wow is more about raiding as others have pointed out. Wow to me has more of an ongoing story.

I do love only needing one character to play all the classes. In ff14 and their crafting is superior.

Blizzard could have done garrisons differently and allowed them to be more housing. They could still do that. Relocate them to stormwind and Org and add customizations like decorations and furniture. At the end of the day they probably feel like all the work it take wouldn’t be utilized or received well enough to merit the work.
