Nah, you’re the one believing a lie. Player housing right would be a huge investment that only a very loud (and notoriously impossible to please) minority want. That the business daddy would monkey wrench halfway through. Like they already did.
But I’m more than willing to sit out an expansion cycle while Blizzard torches their revenue to disappoint you people again.
Whatever you have to tell yourself buddy. Truth is, they could do it without screwing all other forms of content over, if they had started working on it little by little in the background when it was first brought up, we would have it by now with minimal impact. People like you must not realize that things can be done over time in the background with minimal impact on other things.
Whatever you have to tell yourself buddy, the truth is that nothing that could be realistically built by the dev team would satisfy the majority of the players that want housing and their corporate overlords would torpedo it halfway through, like they already did.
But like I said, I think they should try, just so I can come back to the forums afterwards and farm the salt from your tears.
With the amount of money they’d have to spend to develop housing, it wouldn’t be a cash grab at all, which is why garrisons will be the closest we’ll ever see to housing. It’s something they should’ve added over a decade ago when the game was in its prime and simply dropped the ball on.
Just look at garrisons (as Barue above me mentioned). It was taking too long and cost too much to develop in WoD, so they cut a bunch of it, such as having race-themed garrisons and being able to choose our zone for building.
The problem was the Garrison was mandatory, it had too many utilities. True Housing would have been 100% optional. So that means people wouldn’t HAVE to do the housing if they don’t want to and still play the game normally.
The farm in Pandaland is closer to housing than the garrison. Garrisons are for war, housing is for our leisure time and is our home not our job which is more what the garrison is. Blizzard connected game progression to the garrison whereas a home is where you go and get away from “work”.
Real housing should be optional, but have the ability to decorate it and such. Also there should be a few styles of houses. Not just a generic “house” although it might start as a generic house then with OPTIONAL quests can alter it to various styles. The idea of a garrison for my house makes me . I want a Druid grove for my “house”!
I know that they are I played EQ there are no missions and you have to get out in the world to get stuff to place in there ,even your professions can be place there but the material you do have to hunt for them. It is a real world content activity.
While I’d love actual player housing, it’d be cool to at least have a customizable caravan. We could decorate the inside, invite up to a certain amount of players inside to hitch a ride, and pick from our mount collection what is pulling it.
How much more per month are you willing to pay for them?
Blizz isn’t just going to do something like that on the hopes that it can bring in enough $ down the road, they’ll use existing resources which means less work on something we have now.
For the record, player housing was in alpha for the game (there is a video that shows it).
Money for developing housing wouldn’t be bad. You put housing bundles on the store and people will buy them, making it profitable. (as well as making items farmable in game).
Swtor has it and it’s a F2P game, ran by EA, a stingy company and it’s apparently doing well enough for them to continue to develop. So no, player housing would be a great cash grab
They should make an area for guild housing but use the same area graphics for a raid that way you know it’ll be implemented since it’s all about the raid.
