🏠 Player Housing Poll [RESULTS LIVE]

I am very much a supporter of player housing. It would be nice if all of your alts shared a home and could contribute to it! I agree it should not give game changing rewards. Still it would be nice to have a portal from your home to your factions main city!

These houses can be a reflection of how long you have been playing the game and show the tiny achevs you got along the way. Decorating holds many potentials and could be a heck of a time sink just arranging items. Then for the love of heck, let us decide which zone we place our home in. It was a suggested feature in garrisons that was scrapped. I know it would have to be phased to anyone but party members but that would still be good. I still wish that I could RP with people in my Halfhill farm but I can’t!

:tropical_fish: Also I agree that fishing is only interesting if you are watching some thing on Youtube. It is on the same level of exciting as Archeology. I tried lvling Archeology while in que not too long ago. After a half hour I was more then tempted to stop. Both of those professions need something to bring life to them, badly!

Player housing is a wonderful time sink and money (gold, credits, w/e) sink. By that right, it’s almost silly that Blizz hasn’t implemented it yet

HOWEVER

This game currently has so many issues that need fixing before something like player housing is implemented. Class play, existing profession usefulness, and end-game activities are a few of the major current problems facing this game.

I am neither opposed nor in favor of player housing. I’ve played other mmos that have it, and it can be a fun side distraction from time to time, but with the number of issues currently plaguing this game, the devs’ time and resources could and should be spent on more imminent problems.

I really would love player housing. It should be an optional part of the game, like pet battles, and not contribute to PvE and PvP in any way. However, doing any of the three of the above could give you more cosmetic options for your house.

The professions we have currently need love. Adding another would defeat the purpose of that–I think crafting professions should get the ability to make stuff for the house rather than a new one.

But yeah. Housing should be customization and something like a reward/trophy/hangout hub as opposed to contributing to gameplay and requiring people to be there. Garrisons failed on BOTH accounts, especially with customization.

Your poll is flawed as after the initial question of “do you want player housing or not” following questions do not have an option to reiterate the no answer

If I select no to the initial question asking me how I would like to implement housing is futile.

I do not want housing at all, and not because it would divert development resources from development, (the "it will cost a raid tier " fallacy), rather I see any thing that removes players from the community devalues the core tenant of MMO which is player interaction.

Garrisons were sold to us as totally optional content, however they ended up being so intrinsically tied to progression that it was impossible to play/level without participating in the immersion breaking failed experiment, further it removed a whole section of interaction between players by allowing players to self gather and produce items regardless of their chosen professions.

If they could introduce player housing that is 100% optional content then go for it however l have no faith that they could implement this without screwing it up.

I still don’t even have a house in FF14 but that’s mostly because I’m lazy and cheap. I like seeing millions and millions of gil and I dislike the idea of spending a good chunk of it lol.

I’m all for player housing because long form content that can cross expansions is sorely needed for the game. The problem for WoW is that the game would need MAJOR changes for it to even work, at least on the same level as a FF14 house. We are talking profession overhauls, models, and possible engine updates to accommodate the new systems.

Same, same.

I’d probably like it best if it was an optional share. Like for if you have characters that are family members OH AND THEY COULD IDLE AS NPCs THERE WHEN YOU AREN"T PLAYING THEM.

IMO player housing done right is in a way like transmog for the world. Where transmog gives you ultimate customization for your character, player housing gives you ultimate customization over a little piece of the world. It also gives you concrete ties to the game world that just can’t exist otherwise.

So naturally, I support player housing. More customization can only be a good thing.

Here you go, OP.

This is a fair point, which I did not think about

However, that means it would also be a MOST EXCELLENT AND FITTING addition to the NEXT Expansion:

“Home Again, Alive and Well!”

(Literally AND figuratively, since you now also have housing!)

you were given player housing and crapped all over it.

Actually, I wouldn’t mind player housing if there was a monthly rent of 1000+ gold a month and had a deterioration rate for no logging in.

I 100% agree here. Returning home from the afterlife, Legion dealt with, Old Gods dealt with, Faction conflict taken from a boil to a simmer, Sylvanas and the Undead dealt with. I think its time for another “Calm before the Storm” expansion soon.

I think it would be a perfect time for a world revamp, see the world finally healing from everything its been put through and for adventurers to “settle down” for a while.

Adventurers turning their attentions back to the common folk and their issues again instead of being cosmic heroes for a hot minute. Maybe have it eventually lead up to the next big bad or be the precursor to the next big bad.

That would be the perfect time to consider housing imho.

Because it wasn’t player housing, at all. No real customization or control, only one location, it was a solo hub city at best. The reason it was, as you said–

Is because just how far away from actual player housing it was, how every actual “player housing” feature was cut like being able to pick plots, and the bold claims that Blizzard made about it not even remotely living up to even the most basic aspects of the system. Ultima Online had better player housing than WoW, heck there was M.U.D’s out there with better player housing systems and they were mostly text based adventures.

Garrisons are not player housing and once more I will say that anyone who stated Garrisons were “player housing” is either feigning ignorance or has never actually seen real player housing.

The problem with Garrisons was that players felt they “had to” do them. This is ironic, since once again this was NOT WHAT PLAYERS ASKED FOR.

The player housing people have asked for, during the last 15 years, has almost universally been “fluff.” Just as with a thing like transmog, which Blizzard finally gave us, it serves no in game purpose and would give no in game advantage.

There should absolutely be NO benefit to having a player house, other than having a player house to look at or invite a friend to see. That way, people who had no interest in it (mythic + people, Dungeon delvers, raiders, etc) could simply ignore it.

Of course, Blizzard then says, “So why have it, if there is no benefit?” AGAIN, just like Transmog, THAT IS THE ENTIRE POINT.

However, if done right, the main benefit would be the economy (even if you yourself did not want to take part in having a player house.)

Engineers, Tailors, Smiths, Enchanters, etc. could all have new recipes to make things for player houses, to sell on the AH. This would be a positive boon to the in game economy (especially for trades like Engineering, where people always complain about the lack of things to sell to players.)

For 15 years, that has been one of the MAIN player reasons to have in game player housing; It would benefit the in game trade/economy.

I’m too lazy to decorate my home

I have my Garrison and Stormwind. I can grow crops in Pandaria. That’s enough for me.
It can be good but I prefer Blizz use their resources in making better stories and contents.
If anything, I just want that the Garrison is account-wide and let me produce or make something useful I can use in current expansion. I know there are some
but more! (maybe after reaching the maximum level?) And some portals plz? The portals Blizz removed from Ashran.

Oh I didn’t take the poll. Not yes, not no. No desire, no refusal.

I voted yes. I love the housing in ESO and FFXIV. I liked where in ESO after you kill the last boss of a dungeon/raid, you could mount their heads in your house. It was just an extra fun collecting activity. Same with FFXIV, you get music rolls from the trials that you can play in your house or the garden/farming system. I don’t think everything has to be cutting edge content

No to player housing. It would require significant resources that would be better spent reinforcing WoW’s strengths and remediating weak design. Though to be honest, I believe Blizz is simply coasting on WoW’s popularity at this point and will only invest the absolute minimum to keep the game limping along with no substantive changes. Hope I’m wrong.

Thank you everyone for your continued contribution, all who are for and against. We have more than 130 responses so far and some interesting results, especially in regards to the virtual shop question. Please keep the discussion going!

I really fell in love with player housing while rekindling my relationship with SWTOR. It was so cool to unlock different wings of my Coruscant apartment, place down mounts and companions, and also having special account-wide storage my alts could access. It really made me wish WoW could take it and run.

Your poll is very poorly written.

Thank you for the feedback. What is your favorite content in WoW? =)

If Blizzard put housing into the game, I would not campaign for it’s removal, I just have zero interest.

Yes to player/Guild housing.
Especially with Blizzards resources they could get it done and keep adding new content for it along the way.
