Player housing but explain to me why

Well its too bad they lost a couple of good Housing Dev types too Palia…Palia has great housing in it…all done by Past Blizzard Dev’s that got let go or the left cause of issues.

I slightly modified my post you quoted right when you did, but I don’t think it’s something the engine could handle right now, not that it isn’t capable, but it would need to be developed and implemented into the engine. However, I did mention in an earlier post that Ion also said it would take a lot of development time, possibly a raid tier (I think it’d take longer than that) and is why they haven’t done it. It’s 100% because the time it would take to develop, both from the engine side and the art side, they probably feel isn’t worth the investment.

It would be like transmog but for my own place or inn! Oh that would be so fun! We could have our own innkeeper and style them up!

I think that is something I’d really get into. Earning stuff for decoration.

If they ever do PH, I would rather they didn’t keep us in an AU off world planet that’s been destroyed the Light.

Me either but I see people make this statement a lot (“engine can’t handle it”) and I’ve always wondered if that’s true or it’s an urban legend.

Which would be fine with me.

Unfortunately getting Housing in this game is now a Pipe dream with the game being 20 yrs old now…if you really want some good player housing check out Palia…its free to play…and has wonderful housing in it.

I understand Tovi…but they could move the Garrison now …make it empty and plop it down some other instance for us to use…

Nah I’ll pass. I love PH but I don’t want to play a game that’s 100% PH. I like doing a bit of this or a bit of that. Plus Ion has publicly said at least twice they’re working on it.

You don’t need to know how the engine works, but just the fact it is 20 years old and they’ve had to modify it to handle new features they add to the game over the years. Imagine making an engine back in the early 2000s, before it’s launch in 2004. That era of gaming was pretty new with technology and ideas. The engine of that time is still being used, but just added to and modified over the years to do what is needed. I’m sure the development team has a bunch of great ideas, but time it would take to implement in the engine probably is one of the factors it isn’t done. If this was an engine made in the last 5ish years, it would probably be more robust to handle these kind of things as it’s more common in gaming as a whole.

Well, you said they’ve modified it. How do you know how much or little modification has been done?

Blizzard keeps their secrets close to the chest. They could have the entire thing done and we wouldn’t know it.

It can already handle Garrisons and hook placement. But it needs the infrastructure for more options, which they are upgrading right now for other things.

We both mentioned it, yes. But if you look at Old Republic, theirs was released years after the game came out and it released with a more basic decorating system based off what their engine could currently do and it’s a more dumbed down version of the dev tools they use to decorate zones.

And an interview from DF says it’s still something they’re talking about. They don’t talk about the possibility of doing something if the engine can’t handle it. They tell us the engine can’t handle it. Like they told us dyes can’t be implemented well with how things work.

I get it Tovi but there is a bit more too Palia then just the housing there are quests…you can hunt for food that you cook up in your own kitchens…its quite interesting for sure…but I understand you want the best of both worlds…Player housing and Monsters to fight …

They’ve said over the years they’ve updated their engine, even to clean it up some. It’s not unrealistic to think a 20 year game would see updates to it’s engine.

They also said they want to do it right. If they half-bake it, it won’t be received as well. If they are going to put a full raid tier/patch worth of effort into it, they want to get it “right” (it is Blizzard, who knows).

The DF interviews said it’s something on the radar and something the teams want to do, but not something that is currently being developed. Ion has mentioned the engineering side of it at least once in an interview:

“That’s something that certainly gets discussed around the team a fair bit. There’s interest in that and even when it was little things in the past like the farm in Pandaria, players have jumped at the chance to feel there’s a portion of the world that they can call their own and customize in any way. It’s something we still are excited about, still hope to deliver at some point. I think every expansion we have the conversation internally on what are the set of features that make sense for this expansion and whether we want to really focus our art, resources, engineering and everything else [to it]. Player housing is something that we would still love to realize one day, but it’s not part of Dragonflight. That doesn’t mean the dream is dead, it’s something that still gets discussed a lot.

Part of the problem is they’re working with the ancient WCIII engine, which was never really designed for MMORPGs anyways…thus the spaghetti code to even allow basic RPG capabilities over the years (Keep in mind Warcraft is a campaign game, not an MMORPG), between the engine itself having limited capabilities and the spaghetti code of 20 years made by different developers having to be sorted out, some of which may not even be there anymore…they sort of backed themselves into a corner.

I blame the bean counters, a new engine and taking time to move all the assets to and adapt them to a more fitting engine for the genre would’ve been one of the best reinvestments of resources the business could’ve made.

having a house to go to and build would be sick, making it look cool to what things i like. they could add portal rooms, training dummies events, even house raids.

This is such a damn waste of Dev time and others workers time…Cata hasn’t changed since it was launched…yes Vanilla and TBC and Lich king I can see doing a classic but not Cata or MoP…all time wasted on this could of been used to build player housing instead. …time wasted on games that haven’t changed …now there is talk of a Classic MoP…come on now …when does it stop…

It will be factual enough when it happens.not my fault you’re too blind to read between the lines.

Actually, i did have electric power systems, Signals and systems, and fields 2 work that still needed done. Thanks for your concern though =]

The arguement was valid, the insults you did yourself just by being you!

Eh you are entitled to your opinion.

Buy fyr’alath big boi.

No, because it would take more resources than all the things you listed combined.

I agree with this. Cata is when the changes the players hated started. There is no point in doing classic past Wrath. If they really want to continue classic then they need to basically make it WoW2 and not change the systems the players loved that they did start changing considerably with cata. Otherwise there’s no point in classic anymore. If they aren’t going to do that then put those resources toward adding things to retail instead.

Theres the “HeHe YoU DoNt WoRk FoR BlIzZaRd So YoU MuSt NoT KnOw AnY ThInG AboUt BaSiC CoDiNg, ThErE FoR i Am AlWaYs RiGhT.”

Your logic is literally the same logic as the election deniers you probably have some beef with.

Here is the thing now its not even real classic they added wow tokens too the classic side…we never had wow tokens back in vanilla or TBC or Lich King…or even Cata…
