Playable Centaurs Incoming (Maybe)

I think EQ had what, 16 playable races? How many do we have, including the allied races now?

I’m curious if we feel we should have more species, more allies or something else at this point.

more customization of existing races.

Also, Gnome Fro.
Also, Forsaken Beards and upright posture.
Also, everything for everyone.

EQ has 16 playable races. Their 30th expansion is slated for a December release.

I wouldn’t even mind if they made new cosmetic options for characters locked behind rep grinds, PVE (not rng but a customization that requires a reasonable achievement), or story quests.

Maybe even really elaborate ones like prosthetic arm/leg replacements, tattoos for races that don’t have tattoos, and the like for the harder customization options. I just want more options. Always More Options.

I’m not gonna lie.

Hozen altered by exposure to Azerite, giving them greater intelligence and longer lifespans but also making them ‘wikkets’ to the other Hozen Tribes, would be a nice touch and give them a reason to come to the Horde. They’re too different for the other Hozen tribes, just slickies and grookin’ doesn’t entertain and fulfill them anymore, the Jinyu still come after them for their skulls for the Jinyu’s rituals and the Pandaren are still backhanded smug to them because they’re not as ‘cultured’ as they are.

The Horde’s different enough to peak their interest, close enough that its not an entirely alien environment, tolerant enough that the Hozen can find their footing, both socially and culturally, without being humiliated constantly and expansive enough that there’s a lot of room to grow, both in terms of territory and in personality.

Edit: Curse you, Autocorrect!

Again, I point you to the history of Naga in WoW, how they have been on the drawing board as a playable race from the beginning, and how several of the reasons to disinclude them have effectively been done away with. I’m not willing to rule out non-bipedal playable races given where we are with the game’s development.

Worth pointing out, Naga have been a defacto 5th faction in WarCraft since The Frozen Throne. They weren’t super fleshed out, but they had the skeletal structure of their own dedicated faction all the way back in WarCraft 3.

So the idea they’ve been a contender for player race in WoW since the beginning is not that outlandish.

This was basically the argument for not allowing Tauren to mount in alpha (?). In Classic, you only ever saw Tauren mounted on massive kodo mounts. But now, even valentines day flamingos are seemingly somehow able to support their bulk. I don’t think this, as an excuse, holds water anymore.

There is even an in-game justification of this: when we encountered Azshara in Legion, she appears as a Night Elf. We don’t get to see her sexy octopus form until BfA. There’s no reason that playable Naga can’t also have some kind of illusory “visage” that makes them play a bit like worgen or dracthyr.

… I mean, they’re still doing that. They took away the Observer pet, ostensibly because they think PvPers are too stupid to understand that the Observer has the same abilities as the ugly fel dog they want to force warlocks to use now. Same mentality they had when they merged druids’ travel form buttons together: “here, let me do this thing for you that you didn’t ask for but I know will totally be better.”

You know, now that we’re about to have Microsoft overlords, what is their history with listening to the player base about things like this which Blizz is gatekeeping for dumb reasons? If we petitioned the Microsoft team that is in charge of Blizz during/after transition and said we want Naga and Sethrak and don’t care about visible armor or riding limitations, do you think they’d be more willing to listen than old Blizz employees with the “you think you do, but you don’t” mindset.

Famously agreeable corporation, Microsoft.

I’ve always thought that sharing hairstyles across races would be neat to integrate as faction reputation vendor rewards. Like, get Exalted with Stormwind to unlock human hairstyles for all races, Exalted with Darnassus to unlock night elf hairstyles for all races, maybe Valdrakken to unlock Drac’thyr hairstyles? It would give some in-game objective/story for unlocking the customization, and they’re not especially difficult to attain.

That would be fun! I basically don’t mind working for some additional cosmetics (after all, you have to do the Dark Ranger questline and the Night Warrior questline for those cosmetics!), so long as they aren’t limited to a single expansion or super impossible to attain. The most I can take is a reward for defeating a boss in a raid or dungeon that isn’t tied to AOTC/CE/KSM, so if you don’t like PVE content in current content, you can go back and do it when it’s much easier in the next expansion.

Solution: remove Tauren.

Arm tattoos could easily just be bracer designs.

My people…

In all seriousness, of they do add Naga and make them have a bipedal land form, appropriate Yuan’ti artwork would suffice for how it could look…

Maybe?

This reminds me of when people want to be “half-elf, half-troll” and it’s just they’re an elf but with different coloured eyes and small tusks.
