So… I see a bunch of new pirate hats on the trading post.
And a pirate outfit
And a nautical-themed giveaway
And a renaissance-style outfit in the shop (awful but hey).
Which… all adds up to my fear the next expansion is going to be pirate/new world-themed. Does anyone actually want this? Especially after the low point that was BFA? Which felt like the perfect time for Blizzard to get any south-sea-island/exploration/pirate adventures out of their system for good…

Blizzard have a long tradition of previewing next expansions with mounts and outfits. Especially unusual looking ones.
Next expansion is not pirate themed. We just had a pirate themed expansion.
Next expansion is hollow earth/land of the lost/Aqir-focused. Picture Indiana Jones and pulp adventure comics from the 30’s inside Azeroth’s version of the Underdark.
we still got 2 months for them to add a new store mount. also the virtual ticket blizzcon goodies might have a mount that is next expansion
they did it with stormwind skychaser and the blimp for bfa

I struggle to find decent pirate garb in game. I literally got excited when I dropped an item called ‘Old Seafarer’s Headpiece’… only for it to be some dragon knight helm. 
There’s a few hats, sure, but not much else in terms of pirate clothing.

BFA was in no way a pirate expansion lol it was a faction conflict expansion that happened to involve strong naval presence on both sides. There was like 1 dungen that was pirate themed and island expeditions were minorly pirate-ish. The other 90% expac was Faction War, Azshara, and old god shenanigans.
I feel like a lot of people just aren’t being imaginative about what a “pirate expac” could actually be written as. We already have hints at an ominous feeling of something coming from the sea from an NPC in Ohn’Ahran plains. And we have more Old God hints popping up across DF in places like Aberrus and the Forbidden Reach vaults.
Perhaps the “pirates” behind a pirate expac will actually be a Davy Jones meets C’thulhu twist where the expac would open with the new Leader of say the Bloodsail Buccaneers for one faction, and the leader of a rival pirate crew for the other showing up on a tattered escape dinghy or washing up on the shore of Durotar/Stormwind Harbor and they’d both relay a horrible tale of their crews sailing out into the forbidding sea/mistveil sea (based on side) in search of riches to plunder, only to be met by some mysterious crew of “tentacled pirates” off the shore of some unknown land with the pirates ending up being Void minions from a remnant of the Black Empire on the unknown continent or a force from the 5th old god we haven’t learned much about, etc.
Then you get pirates, cosmic horror, and a true lead-up to a light-vs-void end-patch or next expac after that
Which… I don’t want. Cthulhu and cosmic horror? Yup. Pirates and ANYTHING based on boats, New Worlds, peg legs, talking birds, storms on the horizon, etc? No.
And most of that DID appear in BFA. Looking at you, Shrine of Storms, you Island Expeditions, you Freehold, you pirate leaders in Tol Dagor (etc, etc). Lots of boats. Lots of pirates - heck, the Kul Tirans are, basically, pirate adjacent by way of too much food.
And… looks at the new ‘Dashing Bucaneer’ transmog drop on twitch. -.- Bloody Pirates.
