Pick One: Tinker, Bard, or Dark Ranger

Tinker has been a widely requested one, and with good reason. Gnomes and Goblins, along with Dwarves, Draenei, and even Undead to an extent have had their races’ technological prowess gone largely unacknowledged in gameplay. There are so many ways a Tinker could be represented in the game, with many opportunities on adding or expanding upon gameplay elements. Maybe a new bow/gun user, a tank that uses a mechanical suit, or a healer that borrows ideas from First Aid… (RIP) The ideas are limitless.

Bard has also been a somewhat popular request, although quite a bit less so. The idea that Bard is such a widely-used fantasy archetype in so many games and types of media lead people to believe it should be added into WoW. While some don’t think ‘magical music’ has any basis in WoW’s lore, since BfA I imagined it could relate to Azeroth herself giving power to those who speak and sing of her champion’s exploits… similarly to how Magni got power from being her Speaker. Their damage (and healing) would likely be channel or DoT based.

Dark Ranger has probably been requested since they were first seen as NPCs back in who-knows-when, and is probably the most likely candidate for a new hero class if we ever got one. Utilizing necrotic and shadow energy to act as a sort of rogue/hunter mashup appeals to a lot of people I guess, and for good reason considering how Blizzard has represented the ‘class’ (archetype?) in the past.

If you had to choose only one of these three classes to be added to the game, which would it be?

I would go with just Necromancer, not necromancer lite like the Unholy DKs are, but full on Necromancer.

I vote for Tinker.

I doubt Necromancer will ever be a thing, as it would probably step on too many of DK’s toes, if it doesn’t outright pillage abilities from it like DH did to Warlock.

Tinker = awesome, I was actually very disappointed this didn’t happen

Bard = cringe… this sounds totally annoying to me; like having a Harpy allied race and constant screeching… no thanks

For me, though, I’d like to see them add a tank and heal spec to ALL classes; mage tank? sure. rogue tank? make it so; warrior healer? bring it! And yes, Rift already DID THIS - for real.

I pick the best one, shadow hunter

atm the only logical one to make actual sense is the Tinker. Why? because both of us have tinkers already gobs/gnomes. lock it if you want to those races like with the DH’s.

Bard i mean its possible but it would be more of a niche class then anything atm there is no real lore to back it up. same with dark rangers i mean it wouldn’t even make sense unless they split into 3 factions with sylvanis loyalists being dark rangers.

all i know is we need another Range dps and maybe healer combo. we are so damn heavy on melee atm

Bard.

We already have engineers and dark rangers are universally lame. Look at Sylvanas and Nathanos for proof.

Bard for me, always loved that archetype even if it tends to be a bit spoony.

All three.

If I had to pick just one it would be Tinker.

But all three are potentially ranged…

DR.

One is stupid and the other doesn’t fit WoW.

Tinker.

Unpopular opinion

But I couldn’t give a toss about Dark Ranger :man_shrugging:
and Bard would be interesting, but have we actually had any examples of Bards in Azeroth?

Like Tinker’s actually exists we know they exists and it’s for the most part because of the engineering profession. But I still think they could make a wonderful and unique Class if Blizzard truly went in on the idea. :slightly_smiling_face:

Dark rangers have been in game since Cata. They’re just what the Forsaken call their Hunters.

Bard has never been a combat class in Lore. Ever.

Tinkers have been part of the lore for ages and are still not playable.

Bards are lame. #Neverbard

Bards don’t exist in the way the do in other games in Warcraft. Tinker, as nother topic put it, is lame.

And Dark Ranger would just be a Hunter/Death Knight hybrid. All three choices suck.

Tinker is the only realistic option.

There’s essentially no precedent for Bards. Music is NOT magic in WarCraft and never has been. There’s no role for “buffing” and everything to justify it would have to be made from the ground up. Unless we got an explicitly music based scenario, it would basically be the Monk without MoP - a weird, out of place outsider without any justification or reason to exist.

Dark Ranger… while this has plenty of appeal and plenty of precedent, and the upcoming expansion is perfect for it, I hope we can all agree that we do NOT in any way need another “edgy Elves only” class. That said, if it was ever going to happen, now would be the time, so this may well be a ship that’s already sailed.

Necromancer is bland and redundant. The specifics of necromancy is already covered by the DK, and the generalities of “Dark Spellcaster” is fully covered by the Warlock. It’s broadly generic with nothing specific to the franchise and would do nothing but step on the toes of already established classes. There’s no need and no place for it.

Tinker? … Tinker both already exists within lore, could fill roles we don’t already have in spades (ranged non-magic DPS), and could come with unique imagery and themes that don’ t have to be coopted from any other class. It has the establishment, the uniqueness, and the role value to really hit every mark.

Bard. They would wear mail…and there would finally be some cool looking mail pieces developed for transmog.

A bard that heals people with the power of dance would be fun, but WoW doesn’t really do support classes anymore.

Dark Ranger has a history in Warcraft but I don’t see how they could make a full class out of it that isn’t just ripping off half of what the Hunter already has.

With that in mind, Tinker seems like the best choice by default. Its only real overlap that’s already in-game is the Engineering profession.
