Because 97% of Americans and some 92% of the humans on the Earth have a cell phone. Seems pretty clear to me why companies would go with “everyone has a phone.” Virtually everyone does.
You must consider yourself an exception to the norm if you don’t have a phone. And, appropriately and logically, don’t get upset when companies or people ask for your phone information.

As am I, for the most part, and for the past ten years or so. I never, ever call anyone on my phone except my dad on a rare occasion. However, my phone gets used 99% of the time for stuff other than phone calls.
Games, education, game authenticators (have a whole folder of those), watching streaming video, listening to music, paying bills, buying groceries (for delivery), ordering any number of other things by delivery, etc., etc.
Just in closing, as I usually do when it comes to the “I don’t have a cell phone” threads, I’ll just mention that if you don’t want a cellphone, that’s fine. However, if it’s a financial situation that prevents you from having one, you can get one for free from the government, along with free internet as well.

I’ll be the first to admit that prior to getting on this program, I used to tell everyone I didn’t want a phone either, because I was outright mortified and embarrassed to tell people straight up I couldn’t afford one. That was just me and my experience, but I thought I’d put it out there. Not insinuating in any way that you’re in the same boat… just trying to help. Life as a shut-in isn’t usually financially easy, and I speak from experience.
