Phone incompatible with Authenticator App

If they can’t afford a phone, what makes you think they can afford a not-potato for a computer?

Honestly, I never remember seeing a lot of WTS in LFG. Sure it’s there, then everyone has the option to ignore it. But like you say, a few people got up in arms about it and Blizz CLEARLY like to cater to the minority.

One time I had an issue with something and came to GD, was just trolled by dozens saying “get the addon”. So yeah, there’s an add-on to filter your LFG. So all those crying about needing a solution to seeing boost adverts, get the addon. Add-ons are openly available to anyone who play WoW, in fact, the devs have said the game is designed around add-ons. So instead of crying for your exclusive solution not everyone can use, how about everyone with a LFG problem, get an add-on.

READ SON, READ!

Also anyone who can run wow, even at minimum specs, can run an android emulator

One more bonus, is that vulnerabilities will remain on one device. Forcing us to install another piece of software on a second device adds avenues hackers can get to my info. Ironically, this app might make the game queues less cluttered, and perhaps accounts more secure, while simultaneously making our devices with our most private data less secure.

Yeah, and when I come to GD, Blizzard’s official support, and I point out a problem, give ideas for solution, and ask for help, but then I am repeatedly ridiculed and the point is ignored and replaced with non-sense banter, those forum trolls are contributing to Blizzard’s problems and the decline of WoW.

I gave you solutions

You just don’t like them

You have been given a solution that does not cost money that people have proven will work, you are being obtrusive for the sake of it.

Good point. As could anybody else with a boost advert problem. However, Blizz’s new “solution” ostracizes part of the community and forces those who cannot use the app to have less secure accounts.

How does it force them to have less secure accounts. Blizzard’s solution objectively and inherently makes your account more secure.

Two factor auth is always more secure.

Also you’re not be ostracized. You can use the feature just fine.

Name one cell phone plan that doesn’t cost money?

When you do find a different plan, and take the weeks to process the change, then swap all of your contacts over, re-install all your apps, move all your documents and pics, it’s anyone’s guess if the new one will qualify for a valid account for the app.

Bliz won’t explain the requirements needed to be a valid cell phone for the app. They make you guess, then do it all over again when it doesn’t work. It’s ridiculous.

At some point you’re just going to have to move on with advancing technology. Your stubbornness to upgrade is your own choice.

You can get a dirt cheap smart phone or tablet just to use for the app.

It’s the one where you install BlueStacks on your PC and run it the authenticator in that

That all literally takes under 10min now.

It does cost money if you have to buy a compatible phone and contract.

I could say the same for you and many others in this thread who refuse to see my situation and instead want to defend Blizz decisions as invalid instead of trying to make the game more inclusive for everyone.

Go buy a phone is not a solution.

Also, still not understanding why everyone thinks that an authenticator is going to stop boosters. They can authenticate, too. They can spam trade chat and general chat. I mean, this is really a poorly thought out position.

I gave several solutions that don’t require a dime

Good thing these are

Again, you do not need a cell phone number to install an authenticator.

I checked this by uninstalling and reinstalling my authenticator, at no point was I prompted to enter a phone number. You do not need one.

The only thing you need a phone number for is SMS protection, which is an optional feature that you can disable from account security, thus removing the need for a cell phone number entirely.

I have never had a good experience with BlueStacks. Most of the time, it just doesn’t work. Like I can’t even launch the play store much less download and run an app. I had tried this with the WoW app to do mission tables, it did not work. Plus, if something happens to the emulator, I’m guessing I’d lose access to my account.

Sure this might be a workaround, but I don’t think it is an acceptable one, but thanks for the suggestion.

Yes you do. From my understanding, SMS protect is no longer optional. Not only do you need a valid phone number, but it has to be from an approved contract carrier. No pay-as-you-go or burner phones.

Millions use BlueStacks just fine, if you lose your smart phone the same thing happens you write a ticket to blizzard and it goes from there

Accept that you get less access to the game is not a solution. There’s no reason for any of this. They have less invasive methods at their disposal. They chose the absolute most invasive one.
