So as anyone who’s played WoW for a long time now knows, the “Fall of the Lich King” end cinematic shows us a transition that comes with Bolvar Fordragon donning the helm of domination; namely, the lore implications of it. (This is also spurred on by the DK T2 recolor coming in patch 11.1.7)
First, there’s the visual aspect: when Bolvar dons the helm for the first time, the crystal and wispy glow effect of his eyes changes from Arthas’ frosty blue, to a burning red/orange.
This happens because of the second aspect of this post: the lore surrounding Bolvar’s undeath.
He would have died at the Wrath Gate, but “the dragons’ fire sealed his fate”, indicating that the plague was killing him, and the fire might have finished the job, if not for the fact that it was specifically RED dragonfire, which we know to be lifegiving rather than lifetaking. This is also confirmed via Dracthyr Evoker abilities.
Given these things, it is safe to assume that if Bolvar can raise people in undeath, it has just as much to do with his being saturated with red dragonfire as it does with the effects of the helm and its necromantic capabilities. This is also supported by the case of Calia Menethil and the zombies of the Hallowfall Priory, who are all raised in undeath through the light - a topic answered in the forsaken “Return to Lordaeron” questline.
So now, we come to the point:
We, as death knights, should have the customization option to make our eyes glow fiery red like Bolvar.
Additionally (though this is a minor side point and far more mechanical), this lore also implies the capacity for a death knight healer spec based on the use of red dragonfire as a source of necromantic “healing”.
I’d love to start a petition for these changes, but I’d also love to hear thoughts on the concept (whether viable or not)!
Except the one you are prob referring to is not a lore nerd, but a hack who don’t know the lore except for surface level stuff and neither play the game
But you are barking way up the wrong tree here. DKs do not have ties to dragon’s fire like that.
You want a flamey DK appearance though? Yup sure, go for it. Just look at the cursed everburning fires of Stratholme. Why are they everburning? Dunno but it is explicitly stated in the Arthas novel they can’t be extinguished. And that is from Jaina’s PoV. And Stratholme is tied very heavily to the Scourge so there is a much more solid link there.
That said this is only the what? Second or third flamey set we’ve ever gotten the first being the literal Firelands set?

Not to mention this Bolvar customization thing was already talked about years ago along with a healing spec. What is there to talk about? Bolvar was made in a certain way that no one else has. We also are a death knight, not a dragon knight.

I’m not sure about that. I don’t remember if he was actually killed and raised by Arthas, or if the red dragon’s breath was keeping him alive. But he was definitely tortured. I think he’s “undead” and gained access to necrotic powers — or maybe it’s purely a result of the Helm of Domination, which gives him the ability to strengthen someone and grant them DK powers. That part of the lore would have to be explained by someone with a higher level of lore expertise xD.
Yes, we should — especially now that we’re getting a FIRE recolor (we’ve had one in the past already).
There is a possibility of healing through necromancy, where the skin is renewed with fel or shadow energy (like Gul’dan did), or by using someone else’s carcass as a necromancer would — as well as removing diseases, creating barriers of bone, flesh, and so on.
Other petitions that could come up:
Salanar’s full set, some missing Shadowlands sets, more types of ghouls, and different kinds of abominations (a samurai abomination would be amazing, for example).
What? Riddle me this, why do toxic people always expose themselves and then blame others for their toxicity? Syeg, Loc/Veritania, Blood… all of these people have been blaming me for their actions for literal years and its been proven. you mean the replies towards your comment from here and Thread about dks having frostmourne? How is it derailing when you are against DKs having anything nice because your so called “lore” purposes yet it always been debunked by others. You should encouraging at least the class to have different eye glow, runic tattoos, ghoul customization, and much more. I do want DKs get same treatment like the Warlocks tbh
I think the fire/orange eyes would make perfect sense! I’m not sure that Bolvar would be raising people with red dragon fire, as to my understanding he still uses Death magic—but I could see corpses that were on fire being raised that way. At the very least, I think burn wounds could be valid customization options.
I’m also not completely sure that Bolvar was undead, I think the fire kept him alive(kinda)—but I could be wrong
