Pet revive time, do hunters enjoy it?

While playing mythic keys in pre-patch, a few times during boss fight I realized pet has died. Man it felt reviving pet is taking forever before I can get back to the fight!
It felt really bad, I think the revive time is too long!

I think the only feedback in the beta that was more unanimous and outspoken than hating the damage bonus on Hunter’s Mark was that the pet rez change was incredibly dumb and extremely destructive. It basically demolishes any chance of BM or SV being viable in PvP, and is a serious pain in the neck for both even in group PvE (and arguably for MM, too, though they can at least get away with running Lone Wolf).

I honestly have no idea why they gave warlocks Fel Dom and didn’t resurrect (lol) Heart of the Phoenix to fill that niche for hunters.

Like, I get it if the goal was making killing pets more impactful in PvP, and/or discouraging the pets-eat-the-tankbusters strat in M+. But we need to have some way of getting them back out again in a pinch. That’s precisely why Fel Dom was invented in the first place for warlocks, and it’s exactly the same reason Heart of the Phoenix was added for hunter pets back in the day.

I like that in PvP opponents may try to focus my pet as killing it is far more consequential now.

BUT

Survival pets are already so weak and if they die the spec is useless

Precisely. Like, pet death should matter. But it also shouldn’t cripple the class. For both BM and SV, killing the pet is effectively an infinite duration disarm that can only be removed by a 4-second-long interruptable CCable cast, and the pet can be trivially killed by cleave again 15s after it’s rezed.

If pet death is going to be that punishing, then it needs to take way more commitment to make it happen. And if it’s not going to take commitment, it cannot be this punishing.

And it just can’t period in PvE.

2 seconds again please 4 seconds feels trash in all content.

If they brought back Heart of the phoenix ( I believe that is what it was called) then maybe the 4 second time wouldn’t be to bad, but yes in its current state and especially for pvp 4 seconds is to long.

Rank 2 mend pet (bringing it up to 50% heal) may help.

A Shadowpriest can spend 4 GCDs putting DoTs on your pet. It will die in 15 seconds. Even with Rank 2 Mend Pet ticking literally 100% of the time, your pet would die to those DoTs in 30 seconds, without any other damage input.

It is flat unacceptable for pets to be this squishy and also this difficult to revive.

Unnecessary nerf imo. There was absolute zero reason for Blizzard to touch Revive Pet, but, I guess they had to just find something to nerf for Hunters. :man_shrugging:

If devs are stuck on the 4sec revive cast, then Mend needs to heal for a lot more/clear debuffs, BM’s pets should be significantly tankier (they are the “Master of beasts” after all), and SV shouldn’t be reliant on the pet for focus generation - Kill Command should not be a thing for SV, it is and always has been BM’s signature ability. Replace with a focus-generating strike coming from the hunter.

It doesn’t on beta :frowning:

There was an idea about serpent sting ticks giving focus for survival that I thought was pretty cool.

A spec like bm that it’s absolute highest 2 players were only 2700 and 2800 at the very end of the season prior to that they sat at 2500 the hole season. When other classes were at 3500current arena rating. Bm did not deserve any nerfs at all much less one that could crush the class and was completely unwarranted.

I’m confused what you are replying to me to in this statement.

When it changed to 2 seconds or whatever I thought it was way too fast honestly. You have infinite heals with mend, you have a burst ability that full heals your pet usually, on top of spirit mend… if you actually pay attention your pet isn’t dying that much

You are not playing competitive pvp sir.

Yes it does:

Rank 2 Mend Pet is learned at level 52. You won’t see it on a fresh character copy.

It’s purgeable and doesn’t help whatsoever
