Perm bans for Battle.net wave?

I got word roughly 15 people just had their entire bnet accounts permanently banned for AFKing in AV or buying gold.

Anyone else lose a ton of guildies?

Banwaves when they’re out of the office during a long week end? Pressing X to doubt until proof.

Update: it’s apparently hitting retail accounts too. Must be some AI glitch ban wave.

Blizzard bans battleground AFKers and gold buyers.

I was part of the people that got hit with FULL bnet account closures, not even just WoW banned. Was online for 10 minutes checking my in game mail before I went to grab my lunch that got delivered to my door, logged out, grabbed it, went to log back in and was account closed. Apparently happened to a bunch of people I know too that didn’t/weren’t doing anything suspicious.

I can at least say on my end that I haven’t done anything weird, except gdkp which is allowed on cataclysm. Still got hit by the wave. Very annoying that I had to open a whole other bnet account just to submit an appeal with proof to try getting reversed.

Not everyone who gets banned is because of swiping lol

Did you xfer that cata gold to classic?

Banwaves will typically catch people who RMT or who are using some sort of botting/automation, as these are done based on scans/reports which are made by the Hacks team. Anyone getting banned will either have received numerous warnings, or would be tied significantly to the RMT trade or botting, likely far beyond the simple purchase of gold, or any trade which included “bad” gold, often which would net a 2 week penalty to more severe penalties which might be 6 months. Full account bans are rare.

As for the AFKers in BGs, unless they are caught based on having botting/automation software, most of those would be unlikely to be included in a banwaves, since those have much more laborious investigations, as its likely far harder to identify those easily in a report unfortunately, as you can tell based on the ability for many to still AFK their way to high rank.

Now obviously if you feel you were actioned incorrectly its good to appeal, however understand that when you appeal, its not a way for you to defend your actions or provide proof. What will occur is a different GM will review the data, and determine if a mistake was made. If you’re not able to log into your account to appeal if it was blocked, you can use the following link for your appeal.

but in this case… If you didn’t directly swipe you received dirty gold as part of your GDKP. You are supporting swiping one way or another. Stop swiping.

Nah, I don’t do gold swaps or even play retail that much anymore. I strictly raid log cata (gdkps) and log out, as someone said, it may have been dirty gold but even so, gdkps are allowed and I fail to see the part where dirty gold is -my- problem and why I got tangled into it.

Sadly it’s a risk you take when gdkping. That’s why blizzard wants it removed from every version of the game.

If there was a big buyer in your run, I’d say all that gold was rmtd.

I wouldn’t doubt it whatsoever, however, hopefully the appeal works in my favor. It’s just weird how I received a FULL bnet account closure when I’ve never been banned, silenced, or restricted in any type of way before. Like I said, I legit just logged on to check my mail, logged out real quick to grab my food, came back and was banned. Good thing is, I was streaming at the time too and sent that in with my appeal.

You can open a thread in the CS forum also which can sometimes provide some limited additional insight, but know that the blues can’t effect or change account suspensions in anyway, and typically the information provided show that in most cases the people were not as innocent as they proclaimed.

That said, good luck with your appeal.

I’ll also say that the account they closed on me was a good ol 20 year old pre bnet, log in with a username account that had unobtainables and a bunch of rare stuff.

So big F for me.

You are welcome to appeal. It might also be helpful to post here for more guidance:

Good luck. Not to be a debby downer but my experience with the CS is that they are not as easy going as it was when the game first came out, and up until say, the end of retail Cataclysm.

I made a mistake with a character boost back in retail Cata, I called up and their CS let me have that boost and gave me a free one to use for a new character…many years later to two weeks ago, had a issue with a item, and the CS is almost impossible to get a hold of and then claims they are powerless pretty much.

Such a downfall from when Blizzard was a good company.

You were streaming to just check your mail? Anyways that won’t matter for the appeal as they don’t allow you any credit for sending them anything. All an appeal does is get a separate set of eyes to review the decision and make sure a mistake wasn’t made.
