Because they can’t get the name they want, so they use a special character instead of coming up with a new name.
For example, they want Doomsday, but its taken. So they choose Döomsday or something.

why not? if someone has a specific name that you want just add an Ă… or an Ăł and you get an unoriginal name
All of my toons are named Arithawn for guildies sake…hell even my battletag is arithawn

Because there are no maiden names.
It’s because I made my characters a long time ago and so I don’t need them!
My best character names are Elmo, Gem, and Cat.

And the jack*ss spelling of your name makes me suspect you would have used special character’s, but someone beat you to it…

Because I play on Moon Guard, and basically every possible name without special characters that isn’t a gerund is taken. Soon the gerunds will be gone too.
Granted, in this case the name without special characters is actually taken by me, on my other account.

I wanted to make this character look like an absolute jerk and someone who is really evil and edgy. Special symbols seems to have really helped accomplish that. Also… I am a rogue. Why shouldn’t I have a name that makes peoples eyes bleed?
i picked this name as it specifically because its correct spelling uses a special character
" Mi nombre es curse en Español "
one towards the end isnt too bad, at least autofill can usually grab it.
but if the name you want is that taken you need 7 alt codes characters in your name… you should really concider something else.
