This one is the only one I use it on, and I do it because it makes sense for her name.
The ones that get me are the names with ß in place of a B when the actual sound that that symbol makes isn’t the same as B at all (it’s double s basically iirc)
My last elf I hit up and used all decent names based on the core meaning of dread.
All were taken. So…alt char was used. to include all suffixes like -Il, -el and -eth. Elf geeks will know these suffixes well…Tolkien went to town with elf names and language.
Worth noting in sindarin there are several Names for dread. Using 3 suffixes…,makes a larger pool.
All used. Sooo. Alt 0237 for the different I was not used and thus a name was found.
If we had last names…this wouldn’t not be an issue. If…
I personally don’t see anything wrong with wanting to be called a specific name. If it’s your main it’s something you’ll likely always go by… might as well like it.

I’ll use special characters for names that use them, like most of the names from Tolkien’s works have.
Because all my alts are dwarfs named ragaren
I mean, it’s not as if we live in a culture where two people can have the same given name, we have a bunch of names that are pretty common, more that are uncommon and very few that are unique to one person.
Did your parents handcraft your first name, or is there someone else in the world with it?

I know Im about to Necro a one year old post but I wanted to add my two cents on this because current wow has made some changes that make’s certain arguements more relavent, I used to be against the idea of special characters and became pro positive on the idea after a few wow experiences.
- Some names are restricted seemingly for no reason. such as Snowball/Blizzard, and special characters can bypass that.
- Ever since the planned merge of horde and alliance factions: Blizzard made it so u will randomly fight your very own faction in random Bg’s. Ive had a number of times where someone has whispered me from the other team just to talk trash in various ways. Special characters imo are almost like a security feature of keeping that from happening. I mean…im gonna feel sorry for the guy that looks up my special characters just to call me a dumb dumb head in game. lmao.

It gives them the name that they want. People are just going to say the name based off the base characters, regardless of any accents. I don’t mind too much. My mailbox, crafting order ui, and all that will just auto fill if the name doesn’t start with any special characters. I’m probably not going to look up an alt code just to type your name though.

I originally began on my original rogue on shadow council with the name Ginzo. I use the name Ginzo or Ginzo Kazama across all platforms, but for some servers, Ginzo isn’t available so I have to use a special character. I do try to put it at the end like the O is on this character.
when you do a crafting order you hvae to type in who its for? I didnt know that, I never fulfill craft orders.
I just add ‘kinz’ if I am on a high pop server to get names easily lol.

I meant when I place a personal order. It will auto fill based of recent whispers, guild members, and community members. So pretty much if I’ve ever had contact with them.
