People who tank / heal, how are you?

Its no secret thing that most of this forum, reddit, discord, aztec basketweaving forums seem to regard tanking / healing as a thankless job where everyone tells you to commit toasterbath for the slightest mistake. As someone who tends to prefer those roles in games, I don’t see a terrible lot of this, heck i’d even say wows pretty good for it, I rarely encounter truly toxic groups regardless of role. So i’d like to ask the tanks / healers of the world. How often do you encounter horrible people or groups?

Out of about 1200 keys this expansion, less than 1% of the time. That’s across DK, Pally and druid.

Not that often, but I generally avoid pugs outside of doing LFR since I’ve been short on time this expac.

Clearing LFR on 3-4 toons in 9.2 I’ve maybe seen 3 people get kicked for AFK or intentional dying early.

Not often at all. Maybe 1-2% of keys.

honestly. I havent encounter any in months now. At most I get the “you’re awesome, thanks for the smooth run” on occasional whisper. But alot of time it’s “gg, thanks for the run”.

Being a good player / knowledable at the game will save you from most of it.

If you are new and learning or just aren’t very good, you will find far more toxicity as most players just don’t have much patience.

Also the easier the content you do, the less toxicity you will see because mistakes don’t matter as much. The exception to this being mythic plus where you have people stuck who think they are better than they are in lower keys.

It also depends on what you put up with. If a group is starting to be toxic before we even get to the instance, I’m out.

I don’t join groups with names that go around the name filter or really dumb ones. This saves me from a lot of the bad groups.

I don’t join groups with gogogo. Big dps, ksm required, and lots of other red flag indicators that tell me a group is going to be horrible. Are all those groups horrible? No, but the majority are in my experience full of drama queens so I just avoid them and my pug experience is way better for it.

So overall I have a pretty good experience but I can imagine for a new player or even someone playing an alt or new spec it’s a nightmare.

i don’t heal for the sake of getting thanked, i do it because i got that natural nurturing instinct (somewhere in there anyway).

Kind of a mixed bag in terms of the groups i encounter though. Also depends on the particular activity i’m doing.

Back when I actively did keys, any time I got on my prot pally, I’d get nothing but insults and threats for not moving fast enough or chain pulling every mob from the door straight to the final boss or for taking too much dmg despite blowing every cooldown I had to stay alive when I did as they asked and pulled all those mobs, so I just gave up and stopped doing keys altogether.

Extremely rare but it does happen occasionally

I know the feeling. Did the same

That sounds horrible! I havent experienced anything like that in my time as a tank, or seen it as a healer or dps. Perhaps this was a case of a few bad groups?

Never, because tanking sucks so bad and is designed to be the most unfun experience in the game (yes, let’s give tanks the responsibility to PLAN a dungeon run, wtf) that I never do it.

I’m not too prideful and am willing to admit mistakes. So, people aren’t too bad. If I make a mistake and am called out, I’ll accept it and thank the person who called me out for their “advice”. That normally solves the issue.

i had my first bad experience of the season this past week…that’s after over a hundred of them - most of which were pugs. Ironically enough, they were lower rated players too, which is where I personally have encountered most of those social issues.

so def not often :revolving_hearts:

Ive got 2 tanks and 3 healers varying from 2.5k-3.3k io.

Out of all the keys I’ve done I’ve had 2 people leave, never been abused even once.

Even with keys that are bricked most people have been civil to me personally while abusing eachother.

Not playing. But thanks for the checkup. The forums alone are worth the $15/mo.

I’ll play again when tanks and heals have competitive DPS, since everyone is expected to DPS anyways now.

Party with me and I’ll abuse you :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Tanks definitely have competitive DPS, most tank specs can do more damage as the lowest DPS specs

Healers not as much, but they only really DPS half the time and heal half the time so their DPS is fairly competitive given their uptime

I play my bear and do 50-80k dps while dps ia doing 10-20k on an aoe pull. Is that competitive enough for you?
