People who play survival hunter as a main

Never stop doing what you’re doing, rare to see in game but very underappreciated, I say this as I level one atm

So fun to play yet ignored so badly by others

A good survival hunter is rare and does pretty solid damage.

Bad survival hunters are far more common, sadly.

This is true, I’ve seen some wild ones out there recently tbh.

Someone posted a way to fix them by upping focus regen ever so slightly, would be neat I guess.

No melee has a harpoon every 20 seconds to jump back in action

Maybe outlaw rogues but that’s every 30 seconds/1 minute no talent

Warriors seem to always eat my casters no matter what, and sub rogues teleport infinitely.

Not as cool as harpooning but there ya go.

Also to point out

Survival can go in range with aspect of the eagle when there’s a fight mechanic to back away in melee, since every ability except raptor strike/mongoose bite is 40 yards

I got a few ideas on how to fix it but focus regen would be a good start.

Personally I think Blizz needs to commit to one or the other. Go back to WoD style ranged survival or go back to legion full melee survival, not this odd and sometimes clunky melee/ranged hybrid survival.

And then from there they can work on balancing and tuning

It’s not ignored, just being hated from a safe distance, hunters are ranged afterall.

Uncapped bomb is nice.

Pet dying in PVP is not.

99 out of 100 hunters I saw are MM or BM, the only person playing surv is me.

Thats kind of neat.

I like the you and a pet wrecking things together idea.

Not just sit at range and let the pets do it.

Survival is growing on me a little.

Having bm hunter where it’s all pet is neat, then mm for archer/aniper play works.

But man and his pet braving the wilds? Thats a really great concept.

I was miffed there was no plain archer class in vanilla, I can get behind the you and pet melee friends idea.

Eh. The switch-hitter playstyle of melee periods trading out with ranged periods can work. Red mage does it pretty well in FF14. Survival isn’t designed that way, though. Personally I think that’s a shame. It’d be a playstyle no other spec replicates.

Exactly, its not designed with the swapping in mind. It feels like they gave us aspect as a “here you go. You can go ranged.” so the complaints would stop.

Which is why I feel they need to commit to one or do a spec redesign if they want to go with the hybrid playstyle.

My alt is a SV hunter. it is really fun and I’m usually number 1 or 2 on the dps meter in dungeons. Playing the meta doesn’t really matter unless you’re doing super high end game like mythic raids or high arenas.

and even then it’s all ranged until you unload your mana on a few strikes then jump back out again.

I don’t really see that as a problem tbh. Lord knows the hunter community is still sour as hell about losing survival as a ranged spec.

I play survival and marksmanship depending on the comp and group make up I enjoy both specializations . I’m decent at both often parsing in at least the 80 percentile . The problem with survival is the misconceptions everyone has about it. It does decent damage not the best not the worst. It bring the utility that other hunters can a lust a immunity traps and a stun it interrupt is melee but on a much shorter cd. Ultimately no class is bad when played correctly some will excel in aspects that other do not typically logs show priest warlocks and druids at the top in raids but if u look at it these class have easily applied dots that they can apply to inconsequential mobs to boost there damage profile same for unholy death knights so when people look at logs they need to look at the context of those logs. What I would like to see is mongoose baseline fury of the eagle brought in back and serpent sting being free and used as a focus generator. Also maybe give survival aspect of the monkey giving the entire group a dodge and speed bonus allowing people to guess what survive better.

Major issue with survival is that I have to get a weapon that cannot be used with MM or BM. Plus it’s not fun playing survival with the state pets are in. Main reason I play MM despite mostly playing BM for PvE and Survival for PvP in BFA.

Honestly I could see it doing very well for Survival.

Harpoon in
build up bombs/charges of things
Disengage to explode all the things
Repeat later in some sort of builder/spender cycle based around the CDs of disengage and harpoon & focus regen

Have your level 30 or 50 talent row be a choice between fully ranged, fully melee, or reducing the cycle time. It’s win-win-win.

Totally , playing META is not for me . I always do my own ways and end up doing just fine . Wathever I have more fun playing is what i chose over meta.

If Blizz could commit to entirely melee without the pet, or ranged without the pet, and a more intense focus on Traps; I would play that all day.
