People Rolling on Gear They Don't Even Need is a REAL problem in this game

Because need rolls didn’t exist under PL.

You’ve been able to roll on anything you didn’t have at equal or better ilvl since the system came back.

The rule is you can’t roll on an item that you already have at the same or higher ilvl. Anything more strict could cause problems.

This is where all the emotionally fragile people go wrong.

DO NOT INSPECT OTHER PLAYERS WHEN YOU LOSE A ROLL IF YOU DON’T HAVE THE EMOTIONAL FORTITUDE FOR IT.

You only make yourself miserable with jealousy.

Case in point: Every single one of these threads.

Entitled, greedy, and childish. And no, I’m not talking about the people who participated in the kill and happened to win a roll.

He helped kill the boss, he gets to roll on the loot that he can equip, doesn’t matter the reason.

Transmog is the real end game. Blame Blizz for getting rid of personal loot.

There’s no big difference between group loot and personal loot. The same total amount of loot drops from both, there’s no bad luck protection with either, and tank/healers are more likely to get their drops under group loot. If anything, you’re more likely to get loot under group loot people people can pass on rolling, which they can’t under personal loot.

geez you let yourself be trolled - why the heck did you state in chat you wanted the item. You think that will get you an advantage if you beg for it and don’t win?

If he got a piece of crafted gear that is better, why can’t you get a piece of craft gear as well. Especially considering you have been trying for it for months.

If you wanted it for transmog then you are the one that didn’t need it.

Then no reason you can’t get yourself a piece of crafted gear - zero none.

They are the type to whisper people for gear - it is written all over their post.

I agree, remove the ability to trade BoP gear.

Because if one participates in the kill, one has a right to roll on loot.

The 70g or enchanting mats it is worth is a need to all players.

Get used to it. Life isn’t fair. You should know this by now.

If he’s in high level gear, congrats, he just helped carry your no-gear behind to a smooth victory, and the reward for HIS TIME was finally getting that xmog he’s been farming for two months that he will continue to use for the next 20 years, vs the “until i get a higher ilvl piece next week, then toss it on the trash” attitude you have.

What makes your time more valuable than his? What makes your desire for the weapon more valuable than his?

Also, don’t throw the “then roll xmog” option out there, because that has the same likelihood of winning as not rolling at all… NONE.

Everyone plays for different reasons… if you just wanted a higher ilvl weapon than LFR and have been farming for two months, you’re doing it wrong… you could have EASILY crafted a i619 weapon by now, just by running LFR and nothing else. His time and effort is just as valuable as yours.

You lost… go craft a i619 if all you care about is ilvl and let him have his xmog.

So essentially I shouldn’t be rewarded for my time, or just completely not do the content to satisfy you false sense of fairness that sounds a lot like a child who’s mothers is telling them to put back a piece of candy

People will need it for Transmog. But I think there should be a better Transmog rolling. People don’t really need it for stats they roll need for the appearance unlock.

Pixels sure do make people act whack.

I just now roll on what I need / want. Close the windows and move on.

If I win it great. If I don’t, also great (just for someone else). I’m not going to whisper and inspect the people who won it to see if “they deserve it” more than I do for whatever reason.

They just need to make the transmog button a second roll. So it’s separate from actually wanting the item.

Then you would have people waiting to see whether they have a better chance at winning the item or the transmog. Unless they make the transmog button give the appearance to everyone who hits it, that’s not a real solution.

Their policy is that you can’t roll need on the same item at a lower item level. The unfortunate reality is that calculating which item on the fly is computationally expensive; trying to sim a single item change for one character can take several minutes at times. If Blizzard were to try to implement such a policy in real time, they would have to get these calculations across the entire group of people that could use each item down to a few seconds.

Yes, is easy to come up with extreme examples like the 636 weapon versus a vanilla veteran weapon where obviously the veteran weapon is worse. But as the item level becomes more narrow, main stat is missing from a slot, and there are items with special effects, there are many situations where the lower item level piece will outperform the higher item level. Any attempt to prevent need rolls based solely on item level will result in players being denied the opportunity to roll on actual upgrades.

I will… because some people do just randomly hit need.

If there’s something im hot for, especially the old “only really here for item-X”, and i lose the roll… i inspect the person who won… if its an ilvl upgrade for them, i do nothing… they won, grats for them… if its NOT an ilvl upgrade, i assume it’s one of two things “they want it for mog, or they rolled need out of habit, but really don’t care”.

I will whisper and politely ask if they wanted item-X on the hope they just rolled need without thinking. If they say “yes, i want it” i tell them “Grats!” and i sincerely mean it… i never argue with anyone, their time, they won something they want… every now and then they reply “nah, not really, open trade”, and i get item-X. It doesn’t hurt to ask, just don’t be a self-entitled jerk about it!

Eh this doesn’t seem like a tough problem to solve if Blizzard wanted. Each item with an appearance could have a separate roll/pass on the appearance. If the winner of the item also rolled on the appearance, it will exclude their appearance roll (just like how the system handles rolls when two of the same item drop and the same person technically wins both, but they will only get one of them).

Yeah but for the transmog roll you just get the appearance not the actual item
