People are glad to eat bugs as long as they’re eating

Nah.

If I’m joining a PuG with friends, I will absolutely roll need on something they’re chasing and give it to them.

We’ve forgotten what ninjaing is.

I do love the moving goal posts.

“If people are rolling need on stuff that isn’t an upgrade for them in LFR, then go PuG a normal”

“If PuGs are rolling need on stuff that isn’t an upgrade, well join a guild”

People in here are just excusing jerks. Probably because they just do the same thing. Whatever works for them, right?

I only roll need on actual upgrades and typically will only choose to roll need or I just pass. I don’t really bother with greed rolls and I’m not really a mog hunter. But I still think if you participate in a fight, you can roll need on anything those dice pop up on. :woman_shrugging:

Why don’t we let the people who killed the boss get an equal shot at the loot, hm?

You didn’t win the rolls. That’s all that matters. You’ll be a lot less salty if you don’t investigate why you lost.

This is rehashed so many times on these forums, I really need to start cutting and pasting responses.

Need before Greed as a loot system is what’s defined by Blizzard.

“You may only roll Need on an item if your class can equip it and it is considered an upgrade.”

Need is not enabled for gear you can’t wear or if you have the same piece. The inability to block out need based on other items is a technical limitation.

The alternative, once this complaining reaches critical mass, may be simply to restrict people from rolling Need on ANYTHING that is a higher ilevel than any item they own in that particular slot.

What is the alternative?

That people should be suspended for exploiting?

The alternative is any one or multiple of:

  • Disallow Need rolls on anything that is lower or same ilevel for any item you own in that same slot
  • Make transmog rolls ONLY give you transmog, and Need/Greed ONLY give you the equippable item
  • Make Need BOP
  • Make options prior to entering the raid that allow people to enable any or all of the above three

That link doesn’t go anywhere.

For some reason I was getting a 500 error at times with that link, but here’s a screencap:

My interpretation of that statement is they’re explaining what criteria is going to prompt the dice to appear in order for someone to roll need, not that they’re applying any kind of social system rules about when it’s good to roll need and when you’re a jerk for doing so.

I other words, if one can equip it and you don’t already have an identical item of equal or higher ilvl, you can roll need. And I happen to agree with them.

That said, as I mentioned before, the only time I roll need is when it is an upgrade for me and not, as you put it:

I was more talking about what people should do in the mean time.

This gets a bit funky with upgradeable gear, optimal secondaries, trinkets, etc.

Also funky when it comes to the content one is playing. Healers in M+ are often looking for damage trinkets - that is an upgrade for them, though the dps in their raid group may disagree.

People can’t need on every item, especially if they have a higher ilvl version of said item

People who kill bosses are entitled to loot any piece of gear they can need on, that’s the point, lower ilvl doesn’t mean you deserve the loot more.

Look it obviously wasn’t a PURE downgrade for them. The game physically doesn’t allow that.

For instance, I just recently like this rest got into a Normal Abberus on my Druid, because it’s my FAVORITE mog appearance set in the game. Everyone was geared and we knew it was a mog run going into it, so it was expected everyone would need when they could, right?

Well, I was physically unable to need ANY of the loot. Because my character was registered as having a “higher version of that item”.

Meaning you can ONLY need on a piece of gear, if you don’t have a higher ilvl of that on your character. So most people will NEED for Tier instead of using a charge from the catalyst, which makes sense considering you can just Flightstone level the gear you get.

Annoyingly though, my “Higher Item” I had on that druid, was a DREAMBOUND item that I catalysted for the LFR appearance, then I leveled it up hoping it would give me the normal mog at some point, it never did…so my druid is F-ed on that front.

Yea lets listening to streamers that only raid with guild and RIP everyone else that pugs.

Now we have this bad loot system.
