IT isn’t a trade though. That’s my point. Everyone rushed for these jobs, so yeah employers treat these people like they’re disposable.
Trades means, plumbing, electrician, mechanic and whatnot. Like i said, no clue about the state of things in the US but here these people make easily as much if not more than an IT grad because they’re dime a dozen compared to them.
Uhhhh…programmers are always wanted…that doesn’t mean they get paid fairly.
Mental health also has a desperate need for workers, but they don’t get paid well.
Same for corrections.
The demand is extremely high. That’s why they’re underpaid. These companies rely on people desperately wanting to get in because working on video games is their dream job, so they’ll accept what they can get. And there’s a line of people waiting behind them for the chance, too.
Is a 10% raise common in this industry… or anywhere?? The article seems to make it sound surprising that many aren’t getting that, but that just sounds absurdly high to me… or maybe I’m just in a crummy job??
I’m not sure it really has to be a question of socialism or communism or any other type of archaic rigid form of governing.
The question really should just be should 1% of of the people be receiving 1000x that of everyone else. Do people really need $31 mil a year for being a corporate figurehead?
It’s not always a choice, firstly it’s a fairly overarching design of companies these days so it’s hard to avoid, and secondly people have commitments and dependants, most people can’t just say “I’m not working for this corporate machine any longer” because they have people they need to provide for.
Yeah that’s the starting pay for apprentices here and you get a raise for every year you’re in/classes completed until you become Journeyman then get bumped to $45/hr.
I hope it’s also the workers choice to go on strike for a livable wage so folks like you can come crying to the forums when the game’s updates start falling behind because all of the employees aren’t working.
It took me years to learn trades are great, fell victim to the “you don’t want to do tradeskills you want to be a businessman with a suit” brainwashing as a kid.
Not really.
I cannot remember the term, but back when unions would strike, there were plenty of workers eager to fill positions because the industry was always needing workers to fill those positions.
So…if a person does not deserve a decent wage for making something to makes other people happy, then you don’t deserve to enjoy it based on the money you’re willing to expend.
You get what you give.
Of course we know that isn’t your logic.
You just don’t care about people. That would be a lot more honest of you, even if you know its morally bankrupt to admit it.
