p2w in wow would be like that wrath p-server that some folks here claim is “soOoO much better”, where you can just buy full heroic ICC gear and Shadowmourne from their donor store, and then queue into a bg full of fresh 80s and stomp 'em.
Its funny how you say it killed retail which it didnt. Im sure some guilds in retail use gdkp but very few do. And you might be able to by 3 Boe raid items from ah so its far thing from pay to win, but sure lets imagine the wow token is to blame. Do you not realize that people were buying gold from 3rd parties, the only difference is bliz made 0 money from it.

Whats funny is they claim it killed retail yet retail has a higher population than both classic vanilla and classic wotlk combined.

You pay to get gold which is irrelevant unless you only gdkp, which even then, it’s only relevant if you actually kill the boss and the boss drops the loot you want, and you bought enough gold via wow tokens to win the bid.
Which even then, you bought gold, not the gear. You still had to go into a raid and do the fight and get lucky with the drop. No amount of card swiping will change that currently.
I’m not saying this to defend stores or gold buying, but, let’s not kid ourselves here, if you were already in the gold making scene, this isn’t relevant, or if you’re already in a committed raiding scene, this isn’t relevant either.
It’s only relevant for the bad dad gamers who work 6 jobs for their 9 wives and their 13 kids who only have .7 seconds in the week to play the game but still somehow find enough time to deal with pugs but lack even the most basic gold needed to buy dirt cheap consumables, or for players like me who already have a stupid amount of gold, bought every vanity item I can, and just buy wow tokens to pay for my sub.
inb4 I get called a gold buyer when in reality I just don’t take 6 month breaks between my week of playing like the broke players do.
Pay for gold, sure, but pay to win, buddy you were never winning in the first place no matter how much plastic you use.

Wow token made it pay to win? LOLZ. Ita been pay to win for some time, the PLAYERS made it so not Blizzard. The PLAYERS are the ones buying gold for the GDKP. They have been going to third party websites for it, I even seen one advertised on my Microsoft start. This has been going on since classic.
what exactly are you winning in wow? Wow is meant as a casual time diversion. There’s nothing to ‘win’. In Wrath gold is basically worthless. Who cares?
If you’ve seen one “advertised on your Microsoft start” that means you’ve been searching for one probably one that will take you.
Thanks to the WoW token I can now play WoW for free for the next 3 years. Thanks to gdkps. I can now recoup a lot of the gold I spent on WoW tokens back just to reimburse it back into the AH again and keep playing wow for free.
Man I love this game! Run one togc gdkp and I just paid for my subscription for a month!
Also, if you think this game is pay 2 win. Go join a guild and tell me that.

World of tanks and gold ammo my usual pick for an example.
Great ammo. High penetration, nice damage. It cut through even heavy tank armour like a hot knife trough butter.
Only on the store at first. Year or so later…it could be won in clan wars. The catch was you were buying it from the store to win, hell even place, in clan wars.
one could try to be that team to come from nothing an win this no gold ammo. And then get torn to shreds by gold ammo.
