I appreciate the pay gate as, by the looks of these forums, it does one thing very clearly and effectively; keeps out all the non-sub toxic waste. Thank you Blizz for thinking this through. I strongly believe when it comes to a subscription model the following mantra always applies:
NO PAY = NO SAY

Not all the unsubbed people are toxic. There’s a case for inviting at least some of the ones who had subs back in the day, and are still active in the Classic community.
Just like they shouldn’t generalize about Retail subbed people, we should generalize about unsubbed people.

Regardless if Blizz opened the floodgates all they would get are the people who would just report NOCHANGES NOSHARDING etc. instead of people actually giving feedback on the actual game and gameplay. I fully support sub only. And classic itself is technically free, considering you’re paying for Retail.
Anti-consumer practices? HOORAY!!! Activision you did good on this one! Please tak ALL the money you can get, I’m your biggest fan and care more about the health of your corporation than I do about myself!!

When it comes to the beta half the point of doing a public beta is marketing, and Blizzard wants to appeal to those of us who aren’t subbed at the moment.
So there is value in having some people which aren’t subbed.
Plus, being subbed doesn’t preclude you from being toxic. It’s not like General Discussion is a beacon of rational discussion =P

Are you posting in classic hoping to get some rage responses since non-subbed people can still post here? But I did enjoy still having conversations while my sub was out. It actually got me to sub again after speaking and finding an RP guild. Oh well back to just reading and responding out loud to myself it is then.

It is a Beta. You will have to pay $15 a month to play the actual game. Skip a trip or two to McDonalds and Starbucks.

While I’m glad the game isn’t free, giving out beta invites SOLELY to subbed players seems a little exploitative. If you’ve looked around the forums there are some people who are absolutely going to pay to get a shot at the beta. Even without guarantees.
Honestly I think it’s kinda scummy because it feels almost like a loot box. Though I guess blizz is pretty familiar with those now!

I activated specifically because I assumed i would need an active sub for the beta.
I tested original Vanilla WOW… I think if you are unwilling to pay 15$ to see if you get a shot at the beta then you shouldn’t get a shot until maybe stress tests… sorry.
I know how stupid of me to think they would follow the same formula as the last seven betas. . .

That’s my whole issue with it.
I don’t see how people can’t understand how shtityy a move it is to open up a beta opt in the day before invites go out and just throw in you need an active to sub to even be included when it hasn’t been like that for years. Im almost positive a blue posted about just making sure you opt and I’m sure they knew then they were doing this just like they knew about CE pets being inlcuded in Classic when they straight up came in these forums and said they didn’t know yet.
I would of subbed months ago honestly if I knew it was going to be like this.

Exactly! We got our use out of the people that don’t play retail, they petitioned, fought hard over the years and finally with enough of a push, they changed Blizz’s mind about Classic and now we’re getting CLASSIC!
Now that they’ve done all the legwork for us, let’s be sure to ditch quite easily what have been the loudest voices in the VANILLA community - everyone that disliked retail enough to not keep an active sub and fight for VANILLA!
