We agree to disagree on some of your points, and that’s okay! Have a good one! I think I’m done with this thready-E-poo.
What I’m saying is that while that’s what Ion told us, we’ll never know if that’s the full reason. For example, if higher ups at Blizzard ordered Ion to increase play time no matter what, restricting flight until later in the expansion would do so as long as you don’t lose too many players in the process. Ion and team can’t come out and say they were trying to keep us all on the hamster wheel longer, so the exploration angle gives them a more PR friendly reason.
What makes me question the previous reason is Blizzard adding it for Dragonflight without some other reason. This explanation simply does not work for Dragonflight except for those not dragon riding. Ion will surely know this, but not giving another reason leads me to believe there is more to the story that he isn’t saying. And that makes me question whether there was more to the story going all the way back to WoD.
As I said, short of a leak or former Blizzard tell-all book, we’ll likely never know.
We certainly can speculate, and the unfortunate fact about huge multinational corporations is: when you speculate the worst possible scenario, you are more often than not correct.
And what we can speculate is that yes, Ion is Daddy Kotick’s good little boy, and he is doing exactly what you mentioned earlier in the post: keep everyone on the hamster wheel longer in order to drive out sub numbers and squeeze every penny out of players. And when Daddy Kotick is happy, little Ion gets to keep his job. The only price was his soul - if he ever had one to begin with.
It isn’t rocket science. That’s just how corporations work. You’d have to intentionally not be paying attention not to see it.
You do fully know what you need to know as and end user / consumer.
We were told by blizzard.
The problem begins when you think because you play a game you are then entitled to the development of said game, and when you don’t agree with development decisions, you then “question” it and start theory crafting the “whys”… then these “why’s” get regurgitated over and over by obnoxious social media users and after not long the same obnoxious users decide that its no longer theories but facts.
It’s like telling yourselves a lie until you start to believe it.
I never understood this view.
“They are destroying the game”
“They hate the casual players”
“They hate flying”
Why can’t ya’ll just play the game, or if you don’t like stuff, don’t play it?
Because there’s this thing known as “gray area” and “nuance”.
You can love a game and hate some of the things in it. And you have every right to voice your opinion - though admittedly few companies are willing to open their own self-hosted service for this kind of thing like Blizzard is (and I am glad they do that at least, for better or worse).
Yes - people can get a little hyperbolic with their feedback, and sometimes it can seem downright ridiculous, but as is often the case it often comes from a genuine place.
Unfortunately there are also the trolls that like to rile people up too, and post false things or just post ideas that upset other people just to get a reaction out of them. That happens too.
But the point I am getting at is - Blizzard have these forums for a reason. You wanting people to shut up with their feedback isn’t it.
I admit I haven’t been paying that close attention to this specific thing, but, I don’t recall seeing a lot of outright entitlement in these threads.
Wanting something is not entitlement. It does not reach entitlement until you think you are actually owed something or you think you have a right to it. And even then, I think fair exceptions can be made in certain more severe cases of disability. I have not seen outright entitlement in this thread that I can recall.
“rage” is such a judgy way to characterize
someone else’s opinion.
it projects a…take what you get and be quiet,
bias.
not everyone was raised that way.
“whining” “laughable” is a such a judgy way to
characterize someone else’s opinion…
maybe, get outside of your own head once in a while.
as for DragonGliding…Some people care
less for the mechanics…i, for instance, don’t enjoy it.
for me…it takes flight from being a casual utility and
turns it into a deliberate task…
but that’s just how i see it…other people love it…
and that’s cool…because i’m cool.
That’s not what I said or implied.
What ‘many’ people are doing here is not feedback.
define “feedback”…
i think ;feedback; is…you write something
and someone else responds either
to affirm your general thesis,
or to disaffirm it…and neither the initial statement,
an affirmation, or a disaffirmation need to arrive with ironclad evidence,
one way or another…forums are great when people are
allowed to share diverse opinions…these are just our opinions.
When I moderate a game’s forums on Steam, a player who acts like a total ape and gets themselves banned, but still want something, is still providing feedback. Even if I do have to ban them. Feedback comes in all shapes and sizes and forms - we don’t have to like them, but that does not make them any less real. I can be petty and not take their feedback into consideration at all just because I had to ban them - or - I can be reasonable like an adult and factor it into consideration and see if it’s something feasible that I would want to do, and then either carry out or reject their feedback based on that decision.
why do you feel entitled to decide that? Blizzard doesnt seem to think that and the own these forums.

why do you feel entitled to…
I’m partaking in a discussion. This isn’t entitlement lol

Why can’t ya’ll just play the game, or if you don’t like stuff, don’t play it?
I think the better question is, why do care if people give feedback?

why do care
ok I can play… why do you care what my opinion is?
yawn…

Why can’t ya’ll just play the game, or if you don’t like stuff, don’t play it?
Why not seek improvement?
When I stopped playing WoW in WoD after flight’s final fate was revealed, Blizzard suddenly cared what I wanted.
Notice how none of you are talking about the topic?
this is not feedback folks.

Do you not understand what Pathfinder is for? It’s to force us to see the world from the ground for a year.
While I agree that pathfinder is something that needs removed or seriously changed, this line only shows that some can’t think of anything but the most negative parts.
Some people, like me, saw pathfinder as a way to get people out in the world, doing world content, instead of playing “World of Queuecraft”. With that in mind, I can see why the devs, foolishly, put pathfinder in again as while we have been zipping around since the start of DF that does not mean that people were engaging with content as one can engage in content without DR and one can fly around via DR without engaging in content.
A lot of the issues I see is people just assuming the worst when it comes to the devs (I make no excuses for Ion as he might be the one that made pathfinder patchfinder) but people do similar things for different reasons, I.E. Ion limited flight out of pettiness but other devs were on board to get people out of the cities and, without Ion, might have been willing to give us flight on completion of the initial achievement .

ok I can play… why do you care what my opinion is?
yawn…
I don’t really care what your opinion is but you’re going on this rant questioning people on leaving feedback. Why must they either shut up or don’t play?

While I agree that pathfinder is something that needs removed or seriously changed, this line only shows that some can’t think of anything but the most negative parts.
That is literally what Ion said. He stated it back in WoD. He wants us to see the world from the ground and he doesn’t want us skipping mobs.
So why did he not unlock flight after we cleared the initial content, I.E. why did he keep us grounded for a year? If is only goal was to see the world from the ground first, why push it till LONG after most have done that?
If that is really what he said, some could see that as “I want you to see the world from the ground on one playthrough to max level”, which again ties into my argument of wanting people to get out into the world of warcraft. More so if he did not specify a timeframe, like 1 year, which he likely did not due to speaking like a lawyer and knowing that such would invite more people quitting and losing more $$.
