It’s not disabled altogether, but it’s suppressed on a case-by-case basis. (And I think it sometimes needs to be manually given a good thumping, like at ToA.) There’s more they could do on that topic. But this is about this topic, so I’ll refrain.
As the owner of a cross-faction neutral RP guild meant to bring joy and happiness to those that need it (in the form of brews and teas), I am deeply disheartened by this change. Without this addon, my guild has no way of functioning and I would love to have it working again. I want to hope that I still have a way of running my guild successfully, and so hope that this post reaches the ears of those who can make that change.
And on that part too, I am also member of at least three guilds who utilizes this addon for their neutrality as well. Until this is fixed, I can no longer participate in guild events, and I don’t want that to happen, as I love my guilds and their events.
And just to add a little more on the impact, let’s look back at the Tournament of Ages. Over the years, we had to add someone over Bnet and then communicate through there. And even then, at most, we have only communicated one person when the event can easily reach over 100 players just to RP. Not all are from the Alliance or Horde. The addon broke that and we were able to go for a more engaging environment and soon, we could communicate as a group to RP. It was an impact that many had and as shown through this thread, there were other uses it had outside of that for a more impactful experience.
Imagine that. A world where we can use toys without incurring a 1 hour cooldown on a 10 second effect, and transmog our weapons to be a fish without it being considerred ‘silly’ unless its a very specific fish with bounce physics.
Guys, I’ve used up my like limit on this post. But I love like all of you!
For Cross RP!!! -charges off into the sunset-
I guess since we Roleplayers are small in their eyes we would not see this, guess we are a small count getting affected. Yet it has helped out for all of us. I really really HOPE that Blizzard can fix the issue at hand so we can enjoy this addon again.
Thank you, Tammy, for this wonderful contribution to our community. I genuinely hope Blizzard implements changes that allow this feature to return, because it has made RP so much more accessible and entertaining. Especially with the faction imbalance, this promotes so much healthy OOC community building on both sides of the war. Which is really amazing, given the current IC climate!
I will be so sad to see this addon go if Blizz doesn’t fix things. The RP community as a whole has benefited so much from it. Just look at what we were able to accomplish during the Tournament of Ages thanks to Cross RP—it was like nothing we’d ever seen before. Amazing.
As a cross-faction RP coordinator and as a member of the greater roleplaying community, thank you for this addon. And please, please, Blizzard, if you have any compassion for those of us who love this game and its lore enough to devote ourselves to RP, return this function to us. It has been a blessing these past few months.
The main reason i’ve stayed on World of Warcraft, not just for gameplay and lore, is Roleplaying. Cross RP has been a godsend for the RP community and has actually helped it grow tighter on both factions, i’ve met new friends on the other side of MG with the add-on and i’m sure others that have used it can attest to this.
So please, Blizzard, we hope that you can take time out of your busy schedules to reverse this issue with the latest patch.
I don’t see the issue with letting this add on work like it does.
I wish blizzard would have let us talk a long time ago. Not like /spit /wave doesn’t convey our general message anyways. Maybe disable in war mode.
Nevermind. I just fixed and uploaded.
Someone earlier mentioned that beta screenshot of an undead mage winding up a spell after luring an Alliance player nearby. I’ve seen that posted many times when people talk about the faction and language barrier, but that was in, what, 2004? 2003? After that we got PvE specific servers and now we have Warmode. A scenario like that couldn’t happen. The worst outcome is that someone wastes eight seconds of their life being led south instead of north, and that’s only if they ignore the in-game directions as well as the map marker.
Showing support for the creator. The addon was a heaven sent for Cross Faction RP!
As someone that has done a lot of cross-faction RP, this is a really low blow. Sending my support and hoping there is some clarification on the state of this. There is so much potential in the story of this expansion and to see it gutted this way for no discernible reason is really heartbreaking from someone that subscribes almost exclusively to RP.
Roleplay is one of the largest reasons I joined this game, and one of the largest reasons I continue to stay.
BFA had a lot of hype for me, but so far has been majorly dissapointing. The only reason I continue to play the game, and pour my money into it, is because of roleplay and the friends I have made within the roleplay community.
Cross-Faction RP has been a massive explosion in the people I have been able to meet, and I have gone to more events than ever simply because it offered cross faction interactions.
Canonically, there ARE neutral factions in this game. There are countless characters in the game not part of factions that can be seen as neutral. The pandaren are a massive example of this expanded neutrality as well.
There is no reason for the destruction of cross faction interaction, it allows players to communicate and talk about things. It encourages us to work together to complete goals and to just be SOCIAL, something that has been severely lacking in the game thanks to automated PUGging.
I understand that perhaps some people have abused it, MAYBE? This is honestly the first I have ever heard of such things, I have never been shown a case of someone being doxxed or anything because of this addon, because I can garuntee if anyone was attacked severely over it, there would be a MASSIVE stink within the community and smeared all over tumblr, a place where a LOT of roleplay communities and characters lay their heads.
This is honestly extremely disheartening, and I wish Blizzard would pay more attention to their roleplay base, because there are few players more willing to dump money into the minishop or the game itself than us. It’d be nice if they remembered how their game is a massive MULTIplayer online ROLE PLAYING game.
I support this thread. The few times I used the add-on I was floored at how easy it was relative to other methods of enabling cross-faction role-play, which opened up new possibilities for characters and storylines for me. It felt so organic to use this add-on; as if I was role-playing with my own faction. Hopefully this is really just collateral damage from the patch and it’s an easy fix, because I’d hate to see this add-on disappear into the Nether.
This addon needs to be fixed. It’s a huge benefit to the RP community.
I’m really pissed off about this, not going to lie. Blizzard seems to not care AT ALL about the roleplayers, and if they keep doing stuff like this they’re going to drive us all away. There are so many characters I’m just not going to really be able to use anymore since their whole point was CrossRP. I hope Blizzard at LEAST releases a statement about this, but I know they won’t.
All my support for this, I’ve used the add on and it blew my mind how close together it brought the community and to see blizz prevent its use does nothing but hurt our realms and enjoyment of the game.
On a side note, looking at Tammy’s portfolio of excellent addons really makes me want to dive back into LUA from Python/C/Haskell. :^)
The only way I’ll accept CrossRP remaining broken is if Blizzard just gets rid of the stupid cross-faction language barrier that should never have existed in the first place, making CrossRP no longer be needed.
It’s been a long time since 2004, Blizzard. Let it go.
