Faction-agnostic players who enjoy roleplaying on Horde and Alliance should be able to expand their personal narratives by integrating their characters from both factions into campaigns and storylines. Please, show us the same trust and support we’ve shown you over the years. We love World of Warcraft enough to invest a ton of money and time into the game, because we’re passionate about creating stories in your world. It would be better if we didn’t have to use these workarounds with addons, and it would make it a lot easier on your developers if the cross-faction communication feature was supported by the game.
An “RP mode” Could also put everyone into the same shard.
Which’d be sweet as for people who want to RP in busy areas like Dalaran and Boralus.
Oh christ yeah, Sharding has been one of the worst things to deal with when it comes to roleplaying…
I can only chip in with my own two cents here, but as a long time officer in a guild that prides itself on having a presence on both sides of the faction divide, this change is a terrible shame. Cross RP has been one of the greatest things to seamlessly integrate our roleplay out in the world without having to rely on proxy characters, discord, or manual translation via intermediaries. While we could make our old methods work, Cross RP really allowed us to make that effort seamless and efficient.
My only hope is that Cross RP is either restored in some capacity or the faction boundary is loosened to make Cross RP irrelevant.
I also have to say that I’m deeply grateful for all the work that Tammya has put into this addon. It has been a huge boon to our community and it has always been appreciated.
Yeah.
Roleplayers are hard to piss off I think we’ve been more than patient with the materials given to us.
“RP” seems more like an afterthought than an actual dedicated server.
Sharding, outdated customization, refusal to include cross-faction RP…
It feels like this could all be an easy fix but we don’t get much appreciation.
I didn’t get a chance to use Cross RP myself but I’ve only heard good sentiments, including that it is one of the most roleplay enhancing add-ons for WoW since FlagRSP introduced player profiles. Hopefully, we can receive an explanation for this change within a reasonable time, since as it stands this really only serves to break apart freshly created roleplay communities.
Honestly, what a shame. This is the expansion for people to explore what it meant to be a part of their faction and be unsupportive of the actions their side is taking. This is the expansion to potentially seek out others who shared their character’s sensibilities across faction lines and have honor and loyalty blur.
But those stories don’t get to be experienced now, because the tools necessary have been removed. You disappoint me, Blizzard.
Blizzard: “Hey, guys, we made a new social feature to revolutionize the game!”
Also Blizzard: “It breaks your guildchat whenever Battle-net goes down, it comes with a complete simplification of how member-rank permissions work, it doesn’t actually do anything to facilitate a more interactive environment, and now it BREAKS all your useful chat-related addon functions with a locked API.”
Everyone I Know: “Thanks I hate it.”
Blizzard:
I don’t even understand your purpose of not being able to talk to the enemy faction…
What pisses me off is that all these aren’t even that big of demands.
It just seems like Blizzard doesn’t care.
RPers settle for so much in this game its not even funny.
There is no purpose anymore. But Blizzard hates taking a second look at their bad decisions.
Remember how Legendaries aren’t transmoggable because ‘Then you’d see everyone running around with this super mythical weapon!’
Doomhammer and Ashbringer would like a f#@%ing word with you, Blizzard.
There’s not one, it serves no gameplay function at all.
The trend is clear across every other MMO still running that players prefer to be able to communicate and cooperate cross-faction. Given how the MMO market itself is faltering, ignoring the desires of the customer base is not a good idea. Blizzard really needs to pay more attention and take note of what people enjoy, and what they want.
I completely support this addon. I have a lot of friends who prefer Alliance especially in this expansion. Many of them have moved their characters over to the opposite faction which you really sucks when you’ve rped these characters for years and suddenly that’s gone. This addon has given us a chance to still wright together and have the same characters we love. Overall It allows rpers to branch out and reach other people and create new experiences! I think it brings the rp closer much closer than it has before. Please bring it back
Exactly I’ve played tons of MMOs where you can communicate with enemy faction members… it doesn’t destroy faction pride and if anything its strange to see our npc’s communicate fine but players can’t.

I know the guild has done cross-faction-related RP for a long time without the addon. I honestly don’t understand why, after so long, Blizzard remains so invested in the idea of a cross-faction wall. The players have shown we don’t want it. All I can imagine is that there’s resistance to admitting that maybe it isn’t the right call to make, at least not on RP servers.
Unfortunately, the cynical part of me can’t help but to think that none of the developers will respond and the thread will be locked with “read the TOS” – they were asked about this addon multiple times. politely and respectfully, before 8.1 and refused to give us a meaningful response.
I’ve spent a decade playing this game, just about, and I really don’t want to walk away. I’ve got a great guild on this character and I’ve made so many friends. I want to find a way to keep going without shattering what made this guild and this community great. I’m hoping to stay. I want to stay. I want to feel like the RP community is important and listened to. We don’t ask for much, usually, and this is a big ask, but it would mean a lot if cross-faction actually worked. If the fear is that there would be trash talking – well, there’s plenty of that already. There’s a reporting system, right?
Mr. Hazzikostas, tear down this wall!

Correct. In fact, it open up more interesting story prospects, especially in games where the factions are directly at war. Your character is doing something potentially treasonous, what if someone else saw? What happens if you get caught? What if the other person is a defector?
All the other faction MMOs (include R.I.P. Wildstar) allowed for those stories to be told and experienced. They help to illustrate the bounds of our character’s virtues and values and what it might take to step beyond that. Those stories should be told, and should be allowed to be told.
I wrote a few addons, two of which are build to handle cross-factional communication. Both of them still work regarding communication between factions.
I wrote these way back in like 2009/2010, but they stopped working around when the API changed. They only had like 10k downloads each back then. I recently updated them to work with the newer API. One is called “Language Translator.” It doesn’t actually translate (because that is against the rules), but registers when someone is speaking other than common (if Alliance) or other than Orcish (if Horde), then picks from a library of quotes and tells everyone in the vicinity that the funny quote was the actual translation. You can add to and take away from the library of quotes. I just recently realized that there is a problem that could cause infinite chat spam (from unintended loops if you have two or more in the area with this addon installed), but since I re-uploaded this, there are only 43 downloads so far. I may fix it this weekend…but it still works between factions.
I also have another one called “Emote Magic” that lets you reply to an emote with an emote. If someone targets you and performs an emote, you will emote back to your target immediately. I did fix the endless loop issue with that one. This works between factions.
My third addon has to do with placing blame on some random raid/group member when there is a wipe… it’s all in fun and randomly selects someone, which has been known to cause rage quit. (It’s called “who’s the baddie?”)
I’m actually not sure this is giving Blizzard enough credit. Sharding is* disabled on RP realms specifically because of a similar circumstance: sharding was ruining peoples’ RP.
(*supposed to be)
Undead players during the beta were using it to be rude to people.
But restricting people for this reason goes against their own game design. Lots and lots of modern, competitive esports games - including Overwatch and Starcraft! - let you directly communicate with your opponents. It’s curious, then, that if the world would end if we were allowed to speak cross-faction, that all these games have left the feature implemented for years.
Completely removing the faction language barrier or making an RP mode would probably take more work hours than they want to spend, but there’s no reason they can’t un-break our addon.
Please Blizzard, reverse this. Give us back CrossRP. The Tournament of Ages begs you to do so. RPers love being able to reach across that divide to roleplay, and it really helped our community to be able to do so. Taking it away really hurts us. Please, plrease reconsider this…
Thank you for your time…
Cross RP is a dream come true. It’s something I had dreamed about long before I ever heard of the addon and using it was a blast.
By denying rpers the ability to roleplay with the opposing faction, you leave the “war” out of Warcraft within our rp. Please fix this, devs.
