Patch 1.12 is when Blizzard released Drums of War. With that, they released cross realm battlegrounds.
Does anybody know if Blizzard is going to keep it cross realm battlegrounds like when patch 1.12 was released back in the day, or are they trying to keep everything non cross realm and attempt to start it like it was in the very beginning?
Noone knows for sure. Several threads on this.
Cross realm sure would help queue times just like it did back then when they released it.
If one were to have done a simple forum search for cross realm BGās, one would have seen multiple threads on this subject.
Judging from those threads, it seems that there are two camps on this issue. While it is admittedly a generalization, it is pretty accurate to say that:
Those who desire a truer classic experience (or who favor community over convenience) seem to prefer to see single realm BGās.
Those with an instant gratification, convenience oriented mindset seem to prefer cross realm BGās.
Except how is the truer experience to switch BGs to single realm when in fact in the 1.12 they basing on BGs were cross realm? To make them single realm would be a change and less true experience
No, it would not be a change to have single realm BGās, as cross realm BGās were not always part of vanilla. It is every bit as ion keeping with vanilla to have single realm BGās as it is to have cross realm BGās.
Of course, there are people who favor convenience above all else who will claim that removing any āvanilla convenienceā would be a āchangeā because they do not want to have to function without even the few āvanilla conveniencesā.
Most of those who desire a truer classic experience favor community over convenience and cross realm BGās destroyed that PVP community. When cross realm BGās were added, any behavioral accountability went right out the window. Prior to cross realm BGās, it was very rare to see anyone AFK for more than a minute without having let the BG know they were going AFK. No one wanted to get a rep of being an AFKāer.
Once cross realm BGās were added, the number of AFKāers immediately skyrocketed to the point where almost any given BG had at least one or two AFKāers, many more in AV. Players no longer worried about their rep because they were in BGās with random people from other servers whom they would likely never see again.
I can only speak for myself, but I would much rather wait in a queue for 30 minutes or more to be grouped only with players from my server and facing only players from my server than have an instant queue but be in a BG full of people I have never seen before and will likely never see again.
Not exactly. I just prefer to not see āunavailableā. Being unable to play a huge part of the game is more than an āinconvenienceā. It makes you stop queueing altogether, or worse, quit the game. Plus, I remember the battlegroups back then being very community oriented. I would post in my groupās forum regularly. You absolutely would see the same people.
Then you had a different experience than I did after cross realm BGās were added.
The only times I saw a name that eve looked vaguely familiar were the times when I queued with a group of friends and those friends were the only players with even vaguely familiar names.
Once again, though, I favor community over convenience.
Some people favor convenience above all else, as anyone reading these forums can clearly see.
It wouldnāt surprise me if Blizzard goes with server-only BGs at first, then transitions to cross-realm as overall server pops shrink and stabilize. Just a hunch on my part.
Ooh, ooh, I know this one! Itās because 1.12 was only āvanillaā for like a month before BC was released.
This is my guess as well, and it may be NEEDED as the population declines a bit, weāll see.
Iād much prefer single server to start.
I agree with this.
Cross realm battlegrounds was where it all started. I distinctly remember the difference. There was a pretty tight PVP community, if still rather large. You knew your friends and you knew your enemies. Once cross realm hitā¦ it was just all strangers, just like now. You never saw the same person twice.
Maybe it was just my server, but the queueās werenāt bad for BGs unless it was like 2 AM pacific time, so for what itās worth I would prefer single realm or if they really want to do crossāconnect maybe 2-3 realms for bgs.
I think twinking will be a pretty big thing in Vanilla wow, and I would not be surprised if they have cross-realm battlegrounds in it for this reason. Also, even in cross-realms you could get to know people on different realms, remember they only had 6-8 servers per battlegroup, so you would usually get to know the top people from each server
As I said, maybe you had a different experience after cross realm BGās were added.
Prior to cross realm BGās, every BG was populated by familiar names and faces.
After cross realm BGās were added, though, I never saw anyone or any names I knew other than my friends with whom I queued as a group.
Is noone going to bring up why they switched it? Most servers were very unbalanced by faction. If you were on the high pop faction you could be in que for an hour or more. They made server groups putting together servers where the high pop factions were opposites creating a more even # for each and much lower que times. Do we want 1 hr que times for the popular side of that server for real?
I would rather have 1 hour queues and be placed in a BG with only people from my server than an instant or 5 minute queue to find myself in a BG with people I have never seen before and likely will never see again, many of whom will simply be AFKāing.
I prefer they enforce balanced factions so CRBGs arenāt needed at 60.
how do you enforce that?
It did. It also killed any chance of pvp guilds doing anything other that pug stomping. By the end of the day 1.12 came out my pvp guild had a well oiled set up: queue pops. the preassigned āscoutā goes in the bg. If he/she sees a bunch of the same guild name on the other side, he dodges and everyone cancels out of queue. He/she gets a 10 minute break and another āscoutā is invited to the group. If its a bunch of randoms, then game on. except not really a game. more like 5 minutes of camping alliance in their starting graveyard while we 5-0 them in AB. We quickly got to the point where we were annoyed if we could only 4-1 because it took so much longer. And there was no repercussions, because these people werenāt on our server. They donāt matter, they are just honor to be extracted as quickly as possible.
Now pre 1.12, we had knock down drag out ABās for hours every night. The pre 1.12 AB games are my fondest memories of WoW. Post 1.12 it was a brain dead honor farm. But youāre right, we got into games hella fast.
