Party Sync + RAF = no exp or rep bonus

I asked @blizzardcs if this would work and was told it would, but it’s not.

It’s an older twitter post, so I’m not expecting a reply there. To reiterate, my husband came back to WoW, I RAF’ed him, he’s added in my RAF screen, and when we finally had time to play together tonight (my 120 hunter, his 111 DH), party sync worked (except the “storied partnerships” reward thing never went above 0 and we did a bunch of quests) and it was very cool, but he didn’t get any experience or rep bonus.

I don’t actually care even a little bit about the RAF bonuses that I might get, I want him to have an easier time getting rep to catch up to me, and so he doesn’t get bored with a grind and quit on me again!

This is why. You must be within four levels of each other to take advantage of the experience bonus.

I do see that Blizzard rep mention same-level characters, but it isn’t so strict.

Characters must be within 4 levels of each other and below level 110.

Per the twitter thread, I said:

How does party sync work with the RAF level limit? Will it align levels so the 50% RAF experience boost works?

CS responded:

Hey Amy, It sure does! The 50% Experience Boost for Recruit-A-Friend works while you’re in party sync under the very same conditions as if you had a same-level character as your friend.

I might just have misunderstood, but it’s a particularly awful limit, if so, don’t you think? As in, there’s no reason for it, with level syncing and whatnot.

Hmm. Possibly a hold-over from when levels were more structured.

It may be worth suggesting a review of the paradigm.

Yea, it sounds like the level range is what you’re encountering here and I am sorry if the tweet caused any confusion. It does work as long as you’re within range of each other (Level 56 friend, you will sync down to 60).

If you’d like to suggest any changes to either system though, head over to the General Discussion forum. Or you can submit feedback/suggestions directly in-game from the suggestion form under the help menu

I’ll submit in game, I try to stay out of GD shudder It makes absolutely no sense, because once the friend in your example hits 61, a 120 would go from 60 to 80 and the friend would no longer get the bonus. Seems like an oversight, but it’s a pretty obvious issue, I think.
