I’m drawing out my key bind setup for my paladin and came across a scenario.
Currently I have mouse wheel up, Flash of Light mouseover. Shift mouse wheel up, FoL party1. Alt mouse wheel up, FoL party2. These are on 3 separate keys.
I have the same thing for Word of Glory and Lay on Hands with mouse wheel down and a mouse trigger button, respectively.
When I got to my blessings I realized I’d need 12 more buttons if I went the same route as above with the heals. So I wondered, can you create a single button with a shift and alt modifier? For example:
1 single key with
/cast Blessing of Freedom @ mouseover (I’m abbreviating the macro, but you get the point.
/cast BoF (with shift modifier) on party1
/cast BoF (with alt modifier) on party2
Would the Blessing setup accomplish the same as the Heals setup, albeit with 1 button instead of 3?
It enables you to provide off healing/buffs/etc to your teammates without ever having to change targets. It can actually save you a lot of time during a game not having to swotch between enemy and ally targets.
I think generally just having target macros for party1/2/self is sufficient. Then having specific party1/2/self macros for things you use on a regular basis like dispel or super high priority defensive/utility spells like bop and freedom/sac.
ps dont forget about arena123 macros for enemy’s too.
Id stay away from mouseover macros in arena if you can help it too, mouseover macros can hinder your movement, but some people use em and like em for certain spells.
It is basically a requirement for higher rated PvP and unfortunately there are not many good ways around it outside using an addon like HealBot which is not efficient enough for high level arena typically. Even if you use the shift + alt modifiers for your macros you will still need that many more buttons. No way around it.
I personally have 72 keybinds, all used frequently, when playing something like a Paladin or a Healer that has a lot of buttons.
If you’re doing 2v2 you can get away with having no party2 keybinds which for pala is a lot of buttons lol.
I have a target party1 / 2 macro, then normally I just go for whatever cc I’m going to use on arena1/2/3 macroed directly, in this case Paralysis. I’m a healy boy though. If you have a logitech or a mouse with side wheel actions, you could do side wheel left arena1, middle mouse press arena 2, and side wheel right as arena3.
If you are mainly setting up macros for 3v3 I feel like you shouldn’t even bother wasting keybinds on mouseover macros because using @party1 @party2 or @healer @dps macros are way more efficient
The way my macros are setup are like this: my regular regrowth is F, regrowth @ my healer is always alt-F, regrowth @ my dps is always shift-F. so my macro looks like this
The same setup can be used for any ability that works on friendly targets of course
And then all you need to do is make sure your keybind for the ability doesn’t have any modifier since you’re using the modifiers for your party members, which is why my regular regrowth is just F baseline
I also use an addon called DynamicMacros which automatically changes the names in my macros of my dps and healer. I prefer this over using @party1 and @party2 because IMO it’s faster for your brain to always use the same modifier for your healer and dps. Alt is always healer, shift is always dps.
Also reminder that you’ll want to go into options>combat and enable “Auto Self Cast” and set “Self Cast Key” to “none” for this to work
Only with the addon, unfortunately. It’s a functionality I had kind of hoped they’d add for a while because party12 then either constantly rechecking or changing name partners is…clunky. Having your cast always go on dps or healer partner feels really nice.
I…have occasionally had a hiccup where it won’t refresh in shuffle, but other than that it works quite nicely. Like, it’ll be round 2 or 3 and will still have the names of the people from round 1
