Everyone pointing fingers at what is causing lack of participation and I’m just here to throw mine in.
The game just sucks right now, it’s sucked for 3 expansions, and it’ll continue to suck. Why? Meta chasing and ease of use. It seems like regardless of the bracket most games devolve into running in popping CDs instantly and trying to rush down a win. Lots of setups to do so have all become instant cast or mobility of classes has become so high defending against it doesn’t mean to outplay it wisely with CC or movement and saving defensives, but to just pop the defensive CD.
That to me seems to have become more the issue in SL and furthered in DF. On top of that since S3 of SL alts are just too accessible. I like alts, but not when you can just flip flop to a new one whenever a patch hits to become the new meta. It’s why when a class is good, ret, destro, boomkin, bm, its the only thing you ever see. The community has their hand in this too. So many of y’all do this.
I don’t think its because shuffle exists, I don’t think it’s an MMR thing, I think we’ve just lost what makes WoW arena enjoyable to devolved gameplay and meta chasing.
Ret Paladin rework released on Mar 21 if Google is correct, and it has been up until this last week that you could justifiably say things have been a mess.
Two and a half months.
And it wasn’t just like ret was good, I literally had nights where I would have a 90% or higher queue rate into ret teams. So yeah, don’t expect people to just come flocking back because there’s been a hotfix to destro/boomkin/sub. Still doesn’t fix the underlying issues of meta chasing and pop everything to try to win straight out of the gates.
No real way around this. Even when alts took forever to gear (BfA, SL) people rerolled all the time. In my experience nothing will stop fotm rerollers from trying to abuse the currently most broken thing in hopes of gaining an advantage over others. When they make alts hard all it really does is just ruin them for normal people not willing to low crawl through glass to get them up to speed for PvP.
I agree with this to an extent. Would be nice if classes had more depth so the barrier to rerolling was just sucking at the spec, but at this point WoW is so old who hasn’t logged 100+ days /played on probably every class in the game? Plus it’s not like there isn’t still skill involved. The best players are still the best players and it’s not like just random nobodies are running to the top of the ladder on a regular basis.
As much as we might not want it to be true the more I think about it the more I believe we’ve been shown time and time again is that what drives PvP participation are PvP rewards. Whenever there is a bis PvE reward from PvP or inflated rating the masses flock to it. Kinda sucks realizing how many people have such a shallow viewpoint of PvP but I think that’s reality at this point.
MMR is a huge reason how’s it fun for new players to come into the arena and get dominated by rank 1s/glads? or r1/glads on alts?, damage output is another I have zero experience as a sham player but on my alt i just 1shot people when i use cds (although its hilarious)… how’s that fun to heal ? Class balance is such a let down this season. people will rather solo queue as well because it offers more comp playability … 3s offers the same cookie cutter comps. I’d rather play solo queue because I can play any comp on what ever class I’m playing and not feel bound to playing the same old comp that if you don’t play it you aren’t viable in normal 3s? think about it. sometimes solo can be annoying because youll q into like 3 locks as a melee which is not fun or 3boomies (lmao) but ay that’s the lobby even though its busted it is what it is (again class balance?).
“Thank you for your feedback. We listened and are happy to announce that a new mount with 6 month sub is out please hit the link for your special mount”- Blizzard/Activision
Heckingdoggo hits the link, uses PayPal for his 6-month sub , logs on forums, and says the game sucks
He was the most experienced PvP dev left, actually did PvP (reports of breaking peoples ankles on his mage came in from a dev event in Legion), communicated with players on twitter, engaged with the player base at events (I think he even worked out with Bajheera one time), and came across like he genuinely cared. There’s no shot someone new that stays incognito, has no history with the game, and probably never even played it will do better. We will probably just get some Diablo devs to do balance tweaks in their spare time.
Yeah that’s a good point. They can do a lot better making sure everything is at least a solid A tier and that would help a ton.
To be honest, I’m just waiting for uncapped conquest so that I can actually have fun with other stat builds and off-specs. It sucks having to wait so long playing in an “unfinished state” until you have the resources at your disposal to build a character how you’d like with tier/crafting/sub-stats etc.
