Parses are just a general overview. Look at the logs of more experienced users. Compare your casts per minute to them and what they are casting and what you are. It even breaks down the entire fight for you. Warcraft logs are a great learning tool. Grats on self improvement and good luck.
You just admitted to a cognitive bias called false consensus.
You have no idea what the majority thinks and being 99% confident of something for which you have zero evidence is patently irrational.
The only people who cry about logs and log checks are the grey parsers rightfully getting rejected from pugs
People were trying to get highscores in arcades in like 1970.
How is parsing any different?
Git gud
Which confirms the statement I made in my first post.
I mainly just want to get better every run, but it’s also nice to see how my performance compares to others and whether I’m getting better in that regard from run to run.
I’ve had people do that to me in these forums (as I said…I’m not parsing that well overall). My response was to point out that it was completely irrelevant to my opinions on that particular issue, but if we were discussing how to play the class optimally, it would 100% be relevant and an indication that I might not be the best person to take advice from on how to play the class well.
Apart from that, I never suggested that there are not people who abuse the ability to look up parses to make bad arguments and generally be toxic. I would say that those people will find ways to be toxic and generally awful people regardless of which tools exist that they can abuse.
Nobody is impressed with my single blue parse nor would I expect them to be despite that it makes me proud knowing that I am getting a little bit better.
I don’t expect everyone to want to look at my logs or even logs in general. The OP is literally saying that people who care about logs necessarily don’t care about mechanics, lore, or fun and I think that position is judgmental and unjustified. He doesn’t seem to understand or appreciate that pushing oneself to get better and better parses is a legitimate source of fun for many people.
I don’t see anyone in here suggesting that everyone is here for that. I see the OP suggesting that no one should be here for that and others explaining why it’s legitimate to be here for that if you want to be.
I agree, which is why I wouldn’t do that and wouldn’t want my raid leaders to do it either.
I’m not sure who you are talking to except perhaps the elitists and gatekeepers I highlighted as the actual problem in my initial response to this post.
I already did those things minus the PVP rep grinds, mainly cause I don’t care about the rewards.
I’m leveling another alt right now, but when I’m logging onto my main, then yeah I want to see if I can beat my last highscore.
What’s wrong with that? Are you against folks trying to beat their personal bests in other games as well?
My first RPGMMO I raided in was Dungeons and Dragons Online. WoW was the second game I raided in.
Gaming Culture Shock: WOW players are playing a damage meter, DDO was a RPG with players helping each other out in every aspect of the game, WOW is more selfish.
Got way too many clowns on this post hitting them with the “parses are good to better yourself” then make your logs only visible to yourself. Cause we all know how people are actually using parses for this piss easy raid lol killing the community
Yet another I’m terrible so I hate parses thread. Seems almost daily now.
post logs .
People seem to forget that “big numbers” chasers were always a thing, even back in original vanilla. This was mostly the case in higher-tier guilds at least, since back then most people were still drooling and we were all clueless in general. But damage meters have always been a thing. Damage meters would even be linked in chat during raids, so imagine being an undertuned class being compared to mages or warlocks. The game’s been out for 20 years, and we can’t just pretend to be clueless kids with no idea of what’s going on. It would be fun but we can only experience that novel feeling once per game. I’m not saying elitism isn’t a problem, but the “big number” addiction OP brings up was around way before WCL.
Parsing is just going for a high score. You like high scores in games, right? Get serious!
Elder Scrolls Online is the same way. Extremely helpful people in raids, no parsing at all.
why do they matter to you
Yep, ban logs and parsing.
How can I compare my parses to others and learn how to get better if I can’t see what others in my class are doing?
People using parses to gatekeeper are idiots, but the existence of tens of thousands of grey parsers tells me that probably isn’t the main way that they are used.
I’m not a fan of parsing. And to be honest, parsing is such a huge part of today’s culture, I’m not sure getting rid of it would be a good thing.
Parsing is not part of the culture. It’s a joke and only a small fraction of people do it for fun.
Parsing is like timing yourself on your drive to work and bragging you did it faster than other people in your office.
No one cares bro.
Personally, i’ve always viewed it as a competitive culture & goal oriented mindset. Some people just want to chill and get loot, others want to improve and beat their high scores by comparing themselves to others.
It’s not an accomplishment if you compare yourself to others who are not even competing.
Re-read my analogy and let it sink in.
