Edit: this weekend i will be using my keys to help under represented specs get gear. Lower the IO the better. This Saturday look for me in the group finder! I don’t care if you do 1k dps or 10k dps I’m going to walk the talk. Saturday.
How many times have you personally been denied a group because your artificially generated spreadsheet raider IO score doesn’t match the raid leader’s artificially generated raider IO score?
How many times have you been insulted, criticized or belittled because your artificially generated parse isn’t on par with another player you’ve never met?
How many times have you personally ran a sim on your character so that you can boost your artificially generated parse numbers?
My guess is quite alot. And that to me is what has and always will be the reason this game has such a bad rep in terms of elitism. Why is a completely separate program from the core game treated with so much importance?
A prime example is my heroic raid I did last week with my old guild. I got “grey” parses. Whatever that means. Apparently I didn’t fully optimize my character to the point where I’m not even playing a game im playing a dps spreadsheet simulator. I didn’t care then about my parses, and I don’t care now.
I think that these things suck the life out of wow. When I make my own key group, I go out of my way to accept the first few people who sign up. Even if its a fury warrior. Even if its a demo lock. I just want to play my dungeon. And still we beat timers. Do I kick people for low dps? No. I don’t.
I wish more people were like I am. People who just want to play the content and have fun. So I got all grey parses. You know what? I still came prepared with flasks food oil and pots. I did the mechanics. I tried to be a good raider. And we killed all of the bosses but yet again, I got kicked for low dps because of a random dps spreadsheet saying I should be higher.
Luckily I have the power to make my own mythic keystone groups and can avoid this sentiment altogether. I just wish that an artificially generated spreadsheet value was not so highly valued.
Horrible RNG loot distribution system are what’s killing wow.
You will never ever be able to stop players from finding a way to gauge other players experience and worthiness. So stop fantasizing about it.
In classic the equivalent version was “come to ironforge bridge for gear inspection”.
Focus on the systems that you can control by voicing your opinion. Stop focusing on something that is impossible to control based on player information being public whether via API or in game analysis live
The point of parses/raider io/etc. is to give you a reason to improve your gameplay. It’s also easy to manipulate and pad them, but I won’t get into details unless asked.
If you want to get in a CE Mythic raiding guild than you need to be in the top of your class to get in a slot of most guilds. If you don’t care about that stuff or don’t have the time to dedicate 10+ hours a week raiding… there’s a dime-a-dozen guilds that just do heroic/normal content.
If you want to do high keys than you need to be pumping good dps, know how to avoid mechanics, be a good tank/healer, etc. otherwise you’ll fail.
OP actually lists the answer. There’s no reason at all that this should be a problem because everyone impacted could resolve it by either starting or joining groups that say first come, first served. Or by finding guilds or communities of like minded people to run with.
Haha. Talking about parses. That’s been around since Vanilla and I remember quite well being one of the top dps in MC on my rogue while another rogue would be #25 on the list and basically getting carried.
So I used to feel that way. But finding a guild as someone like a tank is stupidly hard . If I play a dps sure . This is an easy fix. But if I’m on my tanks forget it .
I dunno. Nobody ever tells me if they declined me because of my IO or because they want a more fotm tank, or they just got someone better, or they decided not to run the dungeon, or they got a friend, or because they hate my server, or any other reason to decline people.
Exactly 0. And I’ve never experienced anyone else being criticized beyond self-criticism; “Oh man, I parsed gray, I suck at this game” in a joking manner.
Twice, I think?
You say that a lot, but you know this entire game is ‘artificially generated’, right?
Can you elaborate on why you think the score is “artificially generated”? It’s based on data in WoW armory so there’s nothing fake about the inputs that go into calculating the score.
It’s easier for M+, but can be tough for raid spots. I’d say multiple communities is your best bet if you haven’t tried that yet. I feel your pain though, got 4 tank toons myself.
Aren’t you the Rogue who got kicked from Heroic SLG for pulling under 2k DPS? Parses aside, the damage output was pretty low even if you were doing mechanics. (Edit: I read in and yes, this is who I was thinking of).
To your actual points: that’s because people are relying on pugs or other people. You have the power and freedom to make your own groups and not require these tools (as you already said you do). But people want to succeed and they aren’t interested in running with people that aren’t playing at their level, or they want to maximize success.
Some people like to play the game of pushing their DPS as high as they can, and that comes with simming. And it’s fun for people to do that. They also play at the content that promotes that.
However, there are people who want to run certain content but not put in the work. I was in a Heroic guild of role players who wanted to clear the content without putting any effort into improving their characters. Suffice to say they only succeeded with those of us who actually care about what we do and how we perform, and once they left they couldn’t complete any Heroic bosses.
There will always be tools to weed out the performance of those who don’t care and want to be carried and those who do care and want to pull their weight. If more players were willing to put effort in, it wouldn’t need to be this way. But I cannot spend hours a night running with people who don’t know to focus explosives down, or love to hug the mean shades that spawn around bosses. Tools can be abused, but inherently they’re there for information and that’s it.
Likely less than you think, as 9 times out of 10 you’re not invited to groups because there’s dozens of other people that get the invite first.
A lot, and I used that to improve myself because I’m not a fan of being dead-weight relying on others to carry me.
Competing with tanks in DPS is not just lacking optimization, that’s fundamental lacking of base mechanics of how your class functions. While Heroic is far from difficult content, it’s also not a cake walk for most guilds and carrying people doesn’t make that any easier.
K, you’re free to do that. As I am free to remove people out of my groups that aren’t performing and are doing nothing but being carried.
You killed the boss because there were others in there that have some interest in not being a hinderance to your raid team. Go try to clear 10/10H with everyone single-digit parsing and let us know how that goes.
