Palia the wow killer

As per IGN

Palia is being developed by a collective of former developers from Blizzard, Epic, Riot, Zynga, and Sony, and it shows in the overall aesthetic, which can’t help bringing to mind World of Warcraft and Fortnite. Last month we reported on the large number of departures from Blizzard, noting that the industry is currently awash in venture capital. Singularity 6, which was able to raise $16.5 million in 2019 and currently sits at around 50 developers, is on the leading edge of that trend.

True to its roots, Palia will be online-only, which may dismay the hermits who want to build their fantasy worlds on their own. Its world is being built in part around “Neighborhoods,” Palia’s version of Guilds, which will allow players to collaborate in building up their communities. Collaborative activities can earn unique rewards, such as a First Place trophy or unique community skins.

As for those who would rather go solo, director Aidan Karabaich says that Singularity 6 is “absolutely focused” on players who don’t want to have what he characterizes as intense social interactions. Solo players who don’t want to collaborate on a village will be able to create their own settlement.

If I had a nickel for every time someone declared some sort of upcoming game the next “WoW killer” I’d probably make more in five seconds than Bobby made from his bonus last year.

And if I had a penny for every game that tried to be the next “WoW killer” and failed miserably at being the next WoW killer I’d probably have enough money to force Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, and Elon Musk to flip burgers at McDonald’s for the rest of their miserable lives by comparison.

It seems kind of like the Sims, is it like that? I like the Sims but I’ll have to know how much it costs before I make the decision to try it or not.

I mean it’s not really a WoW killer. Palia looks really cool, but it’s a completely different type of game than WoW. Story of Seasons the MMO. WoW and Palia are going to attract very separate player communities who aren’t looking for or doing the same things. They can exist side by side with no effect on each other.

It’s place in the MMO industry probably won’t affect Wow that much. It’s basically the animal crossing of MMO’s and I feel plenty of folks here won’t care for that type of game, I personally will check it out since I like chill stuff but I doubt it will be a wow killer.

Unrelated but the burger place near my house is paying people $19/hour, it’s hard to find people to do the work. I’m not quitting my job or anything but it’s enticing. Teaching a class of 100 can get you only a little more when you factor in all the grading

I liked the concept of Animal Crossing and played it for a bit. But, I eventually found the controls to be too annoying to continue. So, I’d definitely consider trying this out. But, I also realize I’m not a typical high end WoW player. After all, I’m just roaming around after transmogs, mounts, and once had a dream for WoW player housing.

Every time someone makes a post titled “XX WoW Killer” somewhere a fairy dies.

Looks back at Wildstar fondly… The graphics provided about it are extremely remeniscent of Wildstar’s style.

Not to mention you quoted word-for-word from the IGN article, apparently. Individual thought and opinion is a Good Thing, parroting not so much.

From now on when someone ask for housing, i’ll tell them just go play Palia.

Only thing I can say ,“I’ll have to see it to believe it” There are so many games being developed and some are scams . Do we trust this one not to be one of those.

Sounds like op is doing the gd meme

Again, no game will kill WoW. Only developer incompetence will kill WoW, which currently Shadowlands is headed that direction with its poor mechanics, forced playstyles, time gating, lack of balance, etc. It takes poor direction and even worse implementation that will ruin a video game’s future rather than some other product that is taking a gamble for Sink or Swim.

No video game is made with the intention to kill another. Competitve markets exist and WoW being an old video game; will experience fluxes of customer subscriptions. We’ve seen this through the years where the game will either flourish, move idly, or sink hard. And we’re currently sinking fast with the burnout this game is already experiencing. We’re close to a near whole year without the first introductory patch into Shadowlands. (9.1).

8-9 months into the Expansion and the hype, as well as the energy for Shadowlands is demoralizingly low. We likely won’t see a 9.3 for this expansion if the development cycle is this terrible. If this expansion doesn’t kill WoW, the development for the rest of this expansion sure as hell will.

Palia looks like a counter to Second Life, but good luck dethroning that juggernaut.

I WILL MARRY THIS GAME UPON RELEASE! Mark the release date it is my wedding date.

I think it’s probably the most stolen game in history now.

WOW will always be king of stolen games.

Saw the trailer. Saw asmons reaction. I hate wow. Hate that even more.

Honestly it seems interesting. It’s by no means a WoW killer, it’ll be incredibly niche, but it should be interesting to see if it ends up being something good for those into the kinda thing it’s trying to be.

The IGN article comparing it to every popular game under the sun is kind of hilarious though.
