If you had to choose one class to play as, and were limited to paladin and shaman, which would you choose and why?
Paladin to be an unkillable healing machine in PVP.
You won’t have anything to heal when all your dps and flag carriers are getting straight up deleted by me and my windfury pocket healer.
Paladin because my significant other won’t play Horde…
Shaman is the more fun of the 2 by a long shot. They actually have attacks and everything.
Paladin: Defensive utility class. Alliance only.
Shaman: Offensive utility class. Horde only.
There’s more nuance to it, but I find these things to provide an adequate overview.
Shammy for the windfury totem.
Pally for the bubble/hearth=win
Shaman, because, in addition to being on the Horde (Orc shamans are heavy metal), they are extremely versatile in a way which Paladins aren’t due to their questionably designed specializations (especially Ret). They are top tier healers, top tier PvP damage dealers with Ele spec, are reasonably well armored, can utilize totems in nearly any situation (very important for raiding), can move quickly with Ghost Wolf even when flag carrying, and can tank in dungeons with Rockbiter.
If I had to choose one class to play as, I’d lose interest in playing the game really quickly in favor of games that allow multiple classes. You should look for me on the SWTOR forum; I’d be the one starting threads asking them to bring back the earlier version of the game with the skill trees and companions who had their own specializations and used gear.
Shaman is a lot more fun. I’ve tried both out in Classic and Shaman is the clear winner in fun. The amount of totems adds so much flavor to the class. Also shamans have attack spells, so the player isn’t just auto attacking. When it comes to running 5 mans you can fill any roll. Glad I gave Shaman a try I’m having a blast.
Depends on the type of content you plan on doing but I’d probably go with shaman unless you want to be a healer in PvP - then I’d definitely go with paladin.
In rando bg’s maybe.
In pro bg’s never. Your totems won’t exist. They will be gone instantly.
cant windfury anything if youre polymorphed
Shaman advantages:
Totems, good regen, group benefits from them, quick drop and forget. Mobility, Ranged or Melee.
Downsides: Totems. Smart people tap them down with wand, quick melee(hamstring from warriors for quick removal at rage cost) thus negating the benefits. Squishier then people think, mail doesn’t mean much even with a shield at 60.
Paladin I’ll let someone else cover, but feel their Bubble+Blessings+Stun+Heals+BoP+BoF on a single target are much stronger.
Shaman. Paladins are lame.
Thanks, guys. I’m going to roll a shaman and level as Resto via dungeons.
Shaman, I rolled a pally.
But I want chain heal, damn you friends for going ally.
Shaman = fun.
Paladin.
Can spam fast heals for days without calling for innervate.
Can throw out massive emergency heals on a 2.5 second timer.
Can instant cast Lay on Hands on tanks, which buffs them with a 30% armor boost for 2 minutes (!) in addition to topping them at full HP.
Their wipe recovery spell allows both the paladin and their target to avoid taking durability damage.
They buff the entire raid with their blessings, whereas shamans can only buff their party with their totems.
Blessing of Sacrifice on a nearby friend makes them immune to polymorph in pvp, and has no cooldown.
Removes 3 out of 5 different types of debuffs with a single spellcast.
Can make melee enemies instantly drop threat against their current target for 10 seconds.
Bubble+hearth makes people mad.
Can cliff jump from any height twice every 5 minutes without requiring engineering toys.
Have the best looking tier 2 armor in the game.
palaman. 10
