Out of curiosity, I know both Enhance Shamans and Palis are really good, I know at the moment, palis are extremly strong. I am not sure what spec I would do with pali, as I like all 3. But i can get some heirlooms to level them. Which of the 2 is more pvp and heroic++ casually. I know theres a weird hybrid spec palis can do called preg and looks a little interesting
If you’re a sham you basicly have one mabye two slots on a raid team and more often than not are expected to be able to heal as needed.
As a pally ret is comming up and you want one for blessings more often than not so you have a constant spot on a raid team not needing to swap.
Prot and holy are again spots you don’t swap as the main tank or healers you norm swap all the other healers before the pallys.
Every pally spec is strong right now sham same thing but as you said enhance your better of going pally as no real reason to take a sham for a melee slot over a ret or a dk, as a sham your more likly to be ele/resto to share gear thou ehn are used it’s harder to get a soild spot as one. Ret you can get a good spot and your gear is shareable with prot to a decent level. You further now have access to 3 armor types for easier gearing.
Who told you enhance shamans are good?
Play a death knight.
Is the general idea that enhance is bad? I have not run with that many but the few I ran with in the past have been really good
Enh is not bad, it’s not as strong as it was in Naxx. People are always happy to have a shaman in the group, so it’s generally easier to find a spot than a Ret. Hpal and Prot Pal are free invites as they are just the best.
Enhance Shamans are good. They can be bad if you don’t know what you’re doing though, like really bad. Ret pally will only continue to get stronger while enhance will be good but not S tier. I would give Enhance A tier in my opinion. The majority of raids want at minimum 1 Enhance shaman. They can take two without issue, more than two wouldn’t be ideal. Enhance brings tons of utility to any dungeon group so getting in them is no issue. While in dungeons you have amazing aoe/cleave and solid single target.
they will never be equal , pali >>> shaman
Nobody wants to admit it, but you all appreciate having someone as Shaman for Heroism/Bloodlust.
If you want fun and engaging gameplay choose enhance. I’d you want to be bored out of your mind, play ret.
Protection Paladin is the best spec in the game during WotLK and that’s not even an exaggeration. Like literally no other spec is so perfectly suited to it’s role. You’ll get instantly invited for every dungeon because people hate tanking, and you can solo basically anything in the open world. Stop by Karazhan or Botanica and you’ll see most gold farmers are paladins.
I don’t really PvP but even in PvE gear it is fun as prot, I’m a support at heart so being able to lock down healers and generally pull people out of the action without worrying about dying has been a good time and definitely leads to easier wins.
I’ve played and raided with most classes over the years, including shaman, and while I love it, it’s a PvP class. For PvE- they can’t tank, they’re the least impactful healer, and once you’ve got windfury/bloodlust covered they stop being desirable even as DPS. Vanilla shaman was the peak
The only thing shaman has over paladin is being fun lol. I don’t think paladin is boring per se, but it gets repetitive in group content since you’re basically immortal so long as you press the right buttons in the right order then repeat. It’s way more fun while soloing old instances because you actually have to manage your resources and use more of your abilities. Enhance shaman, on the other hand, is easily one of the most fun specs I’ve ever played. Even at low levels it feels fast and explosive, whereas paladin mostly feels like you’re just inputting instructions. AoE leveling as paladin can be more fun but repetitive in its own way.
be very sure that you find paladin pvp enjoyable before you level one
i got this guy to 80 solely for arena then realized i just despise the gameplay of this class. very clunky and not offensive at all. also it never feels like paladins make “big plays” you just outlast, cycle cd’s and do laps around pillars.
preg especially just hits random keys and wins off raw numbers (overwhelming the enemy with heal+dam combined). The biggest communication you make is like alternating kicks
not meant as a dig to anyone who enjoys paladin, just a warning that the playstyle is definitely not for everyone
And if you eventually get valanyr on your pala yet don’t reach glad range, you will get emoted/bad-manner-whispered every single lost match
Gonna throw rogue into the mix now also
Pallies are tough customers in PvP, shamans tear me apart if I’m not paying attention (which is often lol)
I think paladins win, but shamans look fun too.
For fotm, ret MS shockadin OS.
Sham is eleret OR straight ele MS
OS Enh.
Ret for S8 Wrath is the very greatest.
I’ve never been able to level a paladin for this very reason. I want to like them but playing one just feels like watching paint dry.
I’ve been playing a ret paladin and they are fun. I do get how people say they can be dull, but I do enjoy them mostly. I love their class fantasy and their toolkit is fun for a melee class. I love that with paladin you have access to each playstyle, so if you devote six months to ret but get bored you always have holy or prot to fall back on. I also think they look like they’ll be more fun in cata as holy power should give them more focus hopefully.
As for shaman I do have a fairly high level one, but I find totems a bit annoying personally. With enhancement it is a fun spec but feels like a spec you have to work harder at then other people to get worse results. They’re fun but I think shamans aren’t for me.
As with any class it’ll come down to personal preference. Level both for a bit and see which one grabs you.
Both got pros and cons.
Both classes will be present in all raids. All 3 specs of both.
However, only 1 of each pretty much, except you may have 2 paladin tanks and 2 hpalas.
Personally, I’ve always enjoyed Elem Shamy over other 2 specs. It’s straight forward. Enha has a lot of min-maxing in its rotation. And it’s a tons of buttons. It’s very easy to be bad Enhance.
But for ret, there is a really good dynamic WA that helps a lot with the rotation. I use it on my Ret pal and I parse 80-85’s on it.
But specifically for casual PvP and H++, I think Ret is “stronger”. Ret’s AoE cleave is really good. And Rets are always welcome in H++ dungeons. As paladin, you can also have Prot OS to tank dungeons when there are no other tanks.
But as elem, you can have Resto offspec when there are no healers.
The glory days of shaman was back in crusade. Paladin is clearly Blizzard’s favorite golden boy in this expansion.
