Paladin Gold Farming?

How good are paladins at farming gold?

I know they are fairly capable of doing aoe farms in dungeons, however I am referring to a low geared Paladin that needs to farm gold prior to having the necessary items for the big stuff that requires affording and purchasing stuff like the Skullflame Shield.

find any undead mobs around your level, then you can use exorcism and pretend to be a real DPS class :expressionless:

I just want to be able to afford consumables and raid as a healer, and be able to compete in GDKPs :person_shrugging:

Isn’t this the best gold farm for any class?

In the early days of a server, tanking UBRS runs with skinning is reliable gold. Farm an UBRS key, form UBRS runs, tank the runs, and skin all the dragons. Paladins can do this just like warriors and druids can.

You will also work towards your dungeon set while doing this since two paladin pieces drop from UBRS (shoulders + chest), same as warriors.

If I were to do herb/mining instead?

Herb/mining is a bad combo. You can only track one at a time.

Pick either herb or mining and take skinning for a second gathering profession. Vendor the skins at lower levels. Sell thick/rugged leather and black dragonscales to other players.

I love taking skinning just to vendor the skins at lower levels. It really helps.

My thoughts process was more that I could perhaps farm ore for gold and then eventually I’d already have both for jump runs/lashers.

If you’re on a fresh server, there isn’t enough gold in the economy to support selling herbs and ores. Vendoring skins is better income. Then you bank your herbs/ores for a few weeks until people can support paying for them.

If you’re talking established era servers, there are very few skinners on those servers and high level skins (especially rugged hides) sell for ridiculous amounts of gold.

No matter how you slice it, skinning is the play IMO.

So as a Paladin just stick with skinning and mining the entire time?

I would, until you have the big things that you need. Then drop skinning for whatever crafting profession you want (or herb if you want to collect your own pots).

Bummer about skinning on Paladin is you can’t skin UBRS Beast, at least not in earlier phases. I think a Paladin-equippable +skinning weapon shows up in a later phase.

Another bummer is running Paladin without engineering. It’s great for any class of course but really fills the gaps in a pally’s toolset.

Mining is a good plan cuz pally is fast fast fast on their mount+talent and that can make a difference in scoring that rich ore node or not.

Ah that is a bummer

That said, I’ve leveled 2 pally in classic and have always taken skinning while leveling up because it truly is automatic extra vendor income.

Not really. The chance of getting the dagger, and then getting the skin, is astronomically low. Getting the Beast’s skin was definitely NOT why I recommended skinning. That skin is just a bonus for very lucky players, not the main source of income.

The black dragonscales + rugged hides + rugged leathers are the valuable part. You can get a few stacks each run as a tank. You will earn enough gold for whatever items you want before you’re likely to ever see a hide from the Beast.

Why as a tank specifically? Is it not as easy as a healer?

If you’re talking about Classic Era, DM East lasher farming as a paladin is not bad! And definitely benefits from herbalism.

If the tanks wait for you it’s fine, but you probably need to let people know that you plan on skinning every mob if you’re healing.

That’s what I had in mind, it’s just that I’m wondering how to make the initial gold to be able to afford the equipment necessary to actually do that farm. I know a skullflame shield is one such item and it’ll take a lot of gold to afford one. So I just need to know alternative methods of gold making to reach that point.
