And this is why a paid carry is just fine:
ah, the typical “hate something unless they get to benefit from it.”
Be the solution. Stop selling runs and…
I think that they are fine, so long as it’s not done for real money. If anything should be adjusted, it’s Blizzard’s policies for handling scammers. Removing the gold from the scammer and not giving it back to the scammed doesn’t help the person who got scammed. Blizzard clearly relies on this sort of thing as a revenue source since it drives up token sales. The least they could do is make a better policy in that regard.
I’ve never been scammed myself, but I know it’s a risk every time I pay for a service like this. It helps that I am extremely thorough with who I choose to give my gold to. I will look up characters and guilds (along with their achievements and raid progress) until I am satisfied and confident that the group who’s advertising is legit. Sorry not sorry if anyone finds that creepy. I don’t pay for these things often, and even then, it is 99% of the time for an AOTC reward, but having some sort of insurance would be nice.
Do you have any idea what kind of monitoring of accounts would have to take place to prevent this, and how much manpower it would require to detect and document, much less take action on??
Who cares. I have been on both sides, sold carries and bought raid mounts.
being “ethical” and being the only person to stop doing something immoral doesn’t help the overarching, systemic problem - nothing changes if he stops doing carries, except he doesn’t have gold to spend anymore but someone else will just carry the buyer
there is zero reason for him to stop in the current situation - this must be tackled by the authorities aka blizzard to be banned entirely
why do you think so many laws exist? they are manmade because they HAD to be implemented to stop people from being bad
i will give you a real world example - pollution - objectively bad, everyone knows it, but as a singular person, it costs you money to get stuff taken care of and none of the negative effects of pollution would be immediately negatively affecting you - it’s objectively the correct choice to dump your trash anywhere, except ethically it’s a problem - there is no way to solve this pollution problem except making it highly punishing
Yeah, I don’t see carries ever stopping. While odd to say perhaps, one good thing that has come from people doing them for Ahead of the Curve, Elite PvP sets, etc, is such things have lost any meaning behind them. For me at least, given I thought it was cool to see people in such sets, but after finding out people can pay to get them, I lost all interest.
So now I don’t feel as compelled to work for such things as it were.
(Sips )
This is like say i don’t mind selling crack but all these crackheads hanging around need to go.
You know your game might have become too complex to play when your players have to pay professionals to play for them.
I mean, people do that for any competitive games. You think smurfs, cheats, account sharing doesn’t happen in OW, CS, LoL etc?
A possible solution is to have the net m+ score of the group as a factor for the m+ score gained.
IE, a 5-man party of a 500 m+ score will all earn more significantly more rating than they would have with four party members at 500 and one at 3500.
If you don’t like that selling runs is a thing, why do you partake?
Just check logs, you usually can’t know who got carried just by looking at score whether they paid or not.
The only way to fix this is to have extra log aggregates added to tooltips. Like being able to see someone’s mean parse before you invite them.
“Good at kicks”, “uses his stops”, “does good damage” etc. are all things that could be gleaned from logs.
My 2 cents. You spend your money the way you want to. You subscribe to WoW. Costs you money. You stay home from work on Tuesday think you will be able to play, costs you money. you beat your face in with a 20 key over and over just to have it reduced to 19… time is money, costs you money. Now if you wanna pay $10 to have a 20 run go smoothly and have no hassle? That’s YOUR money and your decision. Just like Subbing to wow… or any of the other things I mentioned. No Blizzard will not stop you spending your money the way you want to… period.
Dont you get a season of mastery token for getting 2k rating? I guarentee, if that were removed probably 75%+ of the paid carries wouldnt even bother.
I was pretty excited to prog with my raid group and then I found out some of them bought runs.
I know, it’s their money and all but it still was kind of disappointing for me. I wanted us to clear together as a group.
I don’t even really care if I get the “achievement” anymore.
2k rating is incredibly low this year. That isn’t why people pay.
Quoted for truth.
