Overwolf is a cancer we cannot allow in Wow

Curse’s reward program is the reason why I made several luxury gaming purchases recently (including some VR equipment) that I otherwise would not have had the funds to comfortably afford.

Unless there’s a competitor I’m not aware of with as lucrative as a system, even a significant decline in traffic would not incentivize me to host elsewhere.

Same here. I’m just glad I don’t do the content that requires 90%, or more of the addons that are a must have. Had a ton of them back in wolk, and to some extent in TBC. That’s when I was really into raiding, and pvp though. Mostly just a world quester, and normal to heroic dungeon time walker runner nowadays, and have been since irl friends stopped playing many years ago now. I guess I have maybe 5, or 10 at most, and those are just treasure map, and rare scanners. I do like xpearl, or zpearl though, because of the 3d in game portrait instead of that old generic one that blizz has never bothered to update lol. Have to admit though that this Overwolf business, or whatever they are, are not to popular most places on web, if you search. It’s not just on this forum. Sure as heck would never subscribe , or pay just use videogame addons lol.

Yeah Overwolf is extremely intrusive. My Mobo(Asus) came stock with GameFirst V which was part of Overwolf. The amount of programs and trash software with ads the program downloaded was astonishing. I had to reformat my computer because of Overwolf. Beware.

It pulls from Tuk, WoWInterface, Github and, of course, Curseforge, but when I look for addons, it is either tuk or Curse.

I like WoW up, and would prefer to avoid the mess of Overwolf, but I use too many addons to really keep updated manually.

Can’t you just use Twitch i have it downloaded just to install add-ons on mutiple different games.

Nah it’s just an add on api, they are all the same.

I’ve been installing my addons for years… this wont ever change for me.

But I hope the rest get a better solution regardless…

Or I can just get addon file downloads from the addon creator’s respective websites/discord servers.

Install them manually and forget these cringe lords at Overwolf ever existed.

i dont know if anyone is aware, but you can use https://wowup.io its simple and easy

It’s already been discussed. Overwolf is discussing possibly shutting them off from access to the Curseforge API. If that happens then WoWup or any others that use the API are rendered useless. Unless they come up with something of their own and addon devs actually flock to it.

…which wouldnt be a problem if overwolf wasnt an ad riddled malware injecting STD of a client

overwolf owns curseforge now, sometime im nov they will start blocking twitch from updating

:frowning: i guess no reason for me to keep twitch then when that happens. I can just manually do it as long as i can find a website to do it from.

Edit; is this also for other games too like elder scrolls online?

overwolf owns curseforge so anything there. the problem with doing it on other sites is addon devs dont update on other sites anymore (dbm) so yeah time to install bigwigs for alot of people

This is going to blow up in overwolfs face.

All it will take to keep 3rd party updaters working is for a few major addon devs to get together and tell overwolf that if they close the API they will no longer allow their apps to be hosted on Curse. They wouldn’t even have to follow through on it, just threaten to leave leave curse. IF say the devs for the top 10 downloaded addons that would be a big hit.

Isn’t Israel party to pretty much all international IP/copyright/trademark type laws that Blizzard could use to lodge a complaint?

We should open some GoFundMe bounties for this. Get a hundred thousand dollars and split it between the top 10 mod authors if they promise to boycott curse/overwolf if overwolf acts super douchey

edit - obviously make it a contractual obligation if they receive the money so they don’t take it and just laugh

that will never work, dbm gets like half his monthly income from curse and already stopped updating from other sires

Unknown. I do know that copyright in other countries are not looked at the same as they are here. Patent/copyright legal concepts are defined differently here than almost everywhere else.
