And from what I read, their Hearthstone addon manager thing detects when HS is loading and displays ads over top of the game.
Just imagine seeing ads every time you trigger a load screen in WoW.

And? Host it outside the US in a nation that dgaf about if it’s DMCA violation.
Yikes. That is not cool. Third party ads in Blizzard games needs to be against the rules (if it isn’t already). Overwolf should not be allowed to inject ads in games.
You do need to install WinRaR before doing this, but WinRar is free.
It is plus, not pro, you’re right, I never look at it.
Unfortunately I’m not sure Blizz can do anything. Overwolf’s ads work like Discord’s overlay, where it’s displayed on top of the game instead of inside of it.
Hell if I know, I use Wowup, I tried the Twitch client once, and it’s a massive memory hog compared to wowup. There is beauty in wowups simplicity.
I imagine it’s not going to be as bad as the time I’ve had with addons in the Beta. snorts
This feels like you’re telling everybody they should be an auto-mechanic because their car will need repair sometime in the future, or people should become chefs because their microwave may malfunction. Like just no dude, life ain’t like that. Not anymore.
Gee, I hope not, now that Method is dead.
Well, rip that.
Yikes. It sounds like we need a large outcry to get this changed so that no one sees ads while running WoW. Addon authors need to move away from Overwolf, or at the very least make up to date versions available elsewhere, since it sounds like there might not be much that Blizzard can do.
They did.

Your comparing downloading UI mods to fixing cars and cooking food, just pointing that out.
I can’t stand any business whose business model is trying to remove choice from people. If you can’t compete with others then your business must suck.
I’m hoping that in short order a real competitor will emerge.
Yep.
If the problem is that addon devs need support, that’s fine, let’s start an addon dev coalition that divvies up donations between members or something, but adware installed directly on players’ machines is not the answer.
Indeed I am. Those are important irl stuff. You’re arguing for tediousness for something regarding gaming. Why ignore the irl important stuff but argue something meant to be enjoyed we should all embrace tediousness? I do gaming to escape irl, not add to it.
updating addons isn’t hard… it’s just if you have a good bit it takes FOREVER.
I don’t think the clowns running overwolf understand they don’t own any rights to any of the addons like they think they do.
They do not. I will be boycotting Overwolf, and anything having to do with them. If that means manually installing addons off GitHub, then so be it.

No, the solution is for Blizzard to stop leaving the door open to monetizing add-ons at all.
method is under a revival, they’re already rebuilding the raid team lol.
