Overwolf Client and Addon Management - PLEASE Don't Support This!

People with over 100 addons. Ran into a guy yesterday who has over 230

Didn’t Blizzard try to use this to stop Valve making DOTA2? EULA/TOS don’t really mean anything.

Because people have complex UIs with hundreds of add-ons, all of which update at random times, and doing that manually while ensuring you load the proper versions of the correct dependencies and libraries is a massive and tedious task.

yeah could see how that would suck but why so many? i been playing for 16 years and never use more then maybe 7 or 10 addons at any given time. (wasn’t a top end raider but was up there back back in the day on my old account) don’t really play as much anymore

Yeah, and they settled out of court for that to work.

They rewrote the EULA and TOS after that to make it abundantly clear who owns what, so if the next DotA is created in WC3 or SC2, Blizzard 100% owns the rights and it would be almost impossible to contest it.

yeah wasn’t thinking about the UI’s that alot of players use now still using old school UI over here LOL.

I’ve been using 100+ add-ons since TBC.

So I refuse to use overwolf, and would rather not update manually. What are my realistic options here

Wowup.io, and a few others mentioned in the OP and throughout the thread.

I currently have 72 and most are UI and Information related. I don’t use any part of the Default UI.

Yall know you can just not use the manager right

It’s fine.

Don’t do the “gamer outrage” thing because it’s getting old.

It’s fine.

I legit forget to update after a patch until the next patch.

So I update most of mine about maybe twice a patch cycle. Maybe.

And I just got rid of a lot of my misc ones too so I probably could update them manually.

I could also stand to move back to Elvui but I really prefer SUF…

And hope Overwolf doesn’t lock them out of the CurseForge API. WowUp is by far the best addon manager I’ve ever used.

I mean this is a company that buys up properties used by gamers and replaces them with performance draining malware ridden ad filled garbage. They’ve done it before and they’ll do it again.

My PC is my PC, I install what I want to install, and I won’t be installing a massive ad platform that offers me zero value over other options.

  • Have hope that the add-on developers themselves just nope out of this awful deal

  • prepare to delete add-ons that are only updated through curseforge (I think the more popular ones will be o.k.) and have alternatives lined up

  • Join people in this unanymous “NOPE” and defeat Overwolf with the power of friendship

  • create a new Bookmarks folder where you can bookmark all ur add-ons main websites so you can at least turn your actual browser into its own add-on manager and have the convenience of updating add-ons with just a few more mouse clicks

  • show whatever support you can to the open source community, whatever that means.

I laugh everytime I see a comment like this… I will never update manually.

You have options:

  • Manage the add-ons manually (I do.)
  • Don’t use add-ons.

I am not sure what else to say… it’s like you’re protesting to your toaster. It doesn’t even make sense.

Gas lighting. I have used over wolf for years. Never had a problem with malware or ads. Extremely handy and you can do a handful of additional gameplay options other then add ons. A handful of youtubers went on a crusade against over wolf because of the ad revenue they need for their free to use product.
