I not freaking out at all. I’ll continue to use WowUp and if it stops working I’ll deal with that if and when it happens. I’m just not going to waste my time doing anything manually.
Overwolf app has companion app’s you can download on it. One of them is called HearthArena, it detects when a match is over and starts playing a video ad onscreen overlay. You can’t use HearthArena addon for Hearthstone, without having Overwolf app running the background.

Overwolf is claiming 50-70% more revenue for mod makers for wow. Only a few ways that can happen. Force users of overwolf to keep the app running in the background when playing WoW or bombard users with Ad’s when they search for any addon or want to update one.
I will go back to manually updating addons before i put up with annoying video ad’s. Ublock Origin (web browser extension)
works perfect on curseforge website.
Correct. I don’t think he’s ever said something to the effect of “I only upload DBM to curse because they pay me” since, obviously, he does upload it to places other than curse.
So, yeah. I think you’re mistaken. Or just making stuff up.
Yes, it is call a csrf token system. They embed an encrypted token value that is updated at time intervals into the updater and then check on the repo side to make sure you are using a valid token. Companies do this all the time to combat “scraping” their site and then having someone else direct downloads to their servers.
