Overwolf Client and Addon Management - PLEASE Don't Support This!

And that’s why you’re freaking out over nothing.

Ugh. No, monopolies would be closer to fascism (economically meaning corporaations united as an extension of a totalitarian welfare state).

I not freaking out at all. I’ll continue to use WowUp and if it stops working I’ll deal with that if and when it happens. I’m just not going to waste my time doing anything manually. :man_shrugging:

Overwolf app has companion app’s you can download on it. One of them is called HearthArena, it detects when a match is over and starts playing a video ad onscreen overlay. You can’t use HearthArena addon for Hearthstone, without having Overwolf app running the background.

HearthArena Video Ad https ://medal.tv/clips/3317393/Bw57LPAOYPXF

Overwolf is claiming 50-70% more revenue for mod makers for wow. Only a few ways that can happen. Force users of overwolf to keep the app running in the background when playing WoW or bombard users with Ad’s when they search for any addon or want to update one.

I will go back to manually updating addons before i put up with annoying video ad’s. Ublock Origin (web browser extension)
works perfect on curseforge website.

Not possible…it is very easy to stop any app from running in the background.

And that link isn’t for the CurseForge app… we haven’t even seen it yet.

you do realize that the bigger and more popular addons like DBM have flat out stated they dont send updates to those sites right?

and if you believe that i have a bridge not too far from here id like to sell you

DBM’s GitHub page, updated 3 days ago:

You’re welcome.

I don’t believe or disbelieve it I’m just waiting for actual proof one way or the other,

thats odd, the author has stated previously he doesnt update anywhere but curse because curse pays him

I think you’re wrong.

you mean besides overwolfs previous antics and the things theyve done to hearthstone and heroes of the storm?

about dmb not updating outside cure? lolwut hes said its half his monthly income

Correct. I don’t think he’s ever said something to the effect of “I only upload DBM to curse because they pay me” since, obviously, he does upload it to places other than curse.

So, yeah. I think you’re mistaken. Or just making stuff up.

if i was making half my monthly income from curse downloads why would i update to sites that dont may me at all?

I don’t care about either one of those. Like I said PROOF on the actual CurseForge app. Not that I plan on using it.

I’m not going to get into your fantasy scenario, I’m just going to point out that DBM is uploaded to other sites, you were wrong.

these arent mine, theyre from rambush:

and im saying something is going on and that this isnt normal

Yes, it is call a csrf token system. They embed an encrypted token value that is updated at time intervals into the updater and then check on the repo side to make sure you are using a valid token. Companies do this all the time to combat “scraping” their site and then having someone else direct downloads to their servers.

Again NOT the CurseForge app so I don’t care.
