Anyone else notice this with a lot of classes? I’ve been leveling my alt army, and it feels like some classes just have an insane amount of abilities, but the abilities more or less have the same functionality as another ability that the class has, just with a different cooldown attached to it. A lot of the time the abilities themselves feel pretty underwhelming on top of that. It’s to the point where sometimes I can be heavily struggling to make space for all of them, and this is with me making macros combining friendly utility/healing with DPS attack macros wherever I can, and it still just comes across as a bit much.
Almost feels like they should just throw a second charge on certain abilities, or make it where they don’t have GCDs so the less impactful skills can just be macroed together with something else. Just feels like they came up with a bunch of uncreative abilities for the sake of having more buttons to push, while having those buttons being very dull and unimpactful to press.
Raiders kept crying they were falling asleep doing rotations, then Pandaria hit where Rogues had to manage 2 separate buffs while maintaining energy then they cried to remove buttons.
Then add buttons in Legion.
Then remove buttons again in BFA.
Then add more for SL.
In the end classes have so many different sources of damage that hardly anything feels impactful.
Every spec could have about 1-3 abilities removed. There is a bit of bloat. I don’t ever want to go through with the great pruning that was WoD though.
A lot of the mistweaver bloat abilities feel like bait to get you to waste a gcd on some weaker ability, just to immediately fall behind for pressing it. Even the free insta cast on vivify feels a bit baity just because it means you’re going to spend a gcd following that casting soothing mist, and your vivify isn’t even going to be stacked up from the talent that juices up the healing for it.
Dampen harm and fort brew, probly throwing diffuse magic into that as well, as it probly doesnt stand on its own as a cd against (edit: non) pure casters, though those can at least be macroed together.
Chi wave / zen pulse / expel harm all feel pretty meh, just gcd hogs. Expel harm you could technically buff up if you wanted to soak a lot of points into it + an honor talent into it (it has the benefit at least of being usable while soothing mist is going), but in the end it feels safer just to guzzle vivify spams.
Disc priest is where I really felt it though. Good lord they have a lot of abilities that don’t feel unique enough to be justified. Compared to the fistweaving rotation (aka 4 buttons) it just feels quite the laundry list of skills to press. This could be in part, just be me not being super familiar with some of the classes though.
I get it, I don’t want pruning per say, but superficial abilities that don’t function a whole lot different from one another don’t really feel too good either. If you’re going to make me find keybinds for all this stuff, make me WANT to find spaces for this stuff due to it being useful.
AH DPS abilities for Healers. Yeah idk if Resto shams even get a chance to cast lightning bolt even instant lava burst.
I miss Holy’s Denounce, instead they gave them CS and judgments to feel pesudo melee-adin. This is fun for lower level healing but meh for later PvE and for pvp. Stupid mastery tells you to get into melee with other players.
Fistweaver probably feels -and- functions much better.
Yeah, this was a huge issue with the recent Ret Paladin changes. They did a good job of removing a lot of the bloat, but in the process, they kindof made every ability into the same thing.
Most Ret abilities kindof boil down to:
Deal X Holy Damage, Generate 1 Holy Power
Then certain talents, like Blessed Champion and Blades of Vengeance made all those buttons passively cleave.
In 10.1 the 4 piece Ret tier bonus, is making Hammer of Wrath apply the Judgement debuff and cleave to 4 targets like Judgement and CS already do. Further making these abilities all feel like the same spell, just on 3 different buttons.
I loved winding up a fatty aimed shot from stealth into a chim shot with that legendary ring. Could dunk people SOOOO hard. They weren’t super meta in arena from what I saw (probly due to h pallies being so prevalent and BM being so strong), but they were a blast out in world.
Oh and sitting in camo at the legendary ring turn in place with explosive trap on the portal down to it. I loved punting people to their deaths while them not knowing i was even there. XD
I’m sorry are you complaining about MW having access to 3 different off global defensives?
Diffuse isn’t good in to casters? What? Macroing all three of your defensives together?! huh???
Chi wave is the only “bloat” MW has access to but you just never press it for any reason so it doesn’t really count. Idk how you can get instant vivifies are bad, they are insanely good if you have to move. Zen Pulse isn’t a great ability but it’s P good in to demo and UH. Expel harm has a place as a heal on the move and if you’re channeling soothing on someone who is lining you / out of range you can expel and heal them.
Idk man by the look of these comments there is no way you actually play MW
All serving the same functionality minus diffuse magic. 3 defensives, none of which are usable while stunned.
Mispoke on the first part. Second part, ret pally meta? Yeah… sometimes you do it dirty to survive. Mostly just a holdover from hunting down keybind spacing though. Still just getting back into the game after 2 expacs of afk.
That is literally my point. Having abilities that are just traps to eat GCDs that you waste a point on seems pretty dumb.
great for throwing fistweaving heals here and there. For castweaver you generally are trying to throttle up your clouded focus stacks more and more to keep up with the damage output on your partners though. You don’t generate that with spot vivifies.
A niche button that’s okay against a couple classes.
Expel harm works on LoS’d targets with soothing applied? That i did not know. Nothing else functions that way, so I just assumed it wouldn’t either. Appreciate that tid bit of info.
