Overcrowded Realm Update

if 2 people have the same name you do

I agree. However, given the persistently declining subscriptions during that period, I just don’t think there are a lot of players who started after Cataclysm.

There aren’t that many people that play private servers, period; they are vocal in the Classic community, for good reason, but they aren’t the bulk of the people that will be playing.

There will be dips whenever live releases a patch, but they won’t be permanent.

No you don’t. Tinderbits of Amnesty remains while Tinderbits of Khaz Modan also remains. You are designated by your server.

ewww 2 of the same name, you’re talking that type of server merge? with like 3 different realm names? Names need to be unique thats important in classic.

Why only create 3 EST PvP servers in the first place? Since you’re forcing CST players to play there, there should have been 4 to begin with.

As I stated, I’m talking about Connected Servers. To quote a Q and A, I think, on the topic:

"Your server name is like your Last Name.

Lets say your toon name is Solarius, and the realm you play on is Hellscream. Meanwhile, another guy has also a toon named Solarius, on the realm Proudmoore.

And the two realms are connected. If you two meet face-to-face, you would be Solarius-Hellscream, and what you’d see when you click on the other guy is Solarius-Proudmoore.(*)

So no, your old name is not overwritten. Same thing happens to guilds."

The US has only two server hubs in Chicago and Los Angeles. Actually, Chicago is more like CST than EST. I agree, though, that Blizzard should have started with many more servers of both PVP and PVE.

The USS Herod: A short story

Krug heard a loud crash and the entire ship quaked beneath his feet He rushed from his cabin almost knocking the door from its hinges and barrelled down the corridor, all the while his mind echoing with a creeping dread, the USS Herod was sinking. As he reached the elaborate banquet hall it became clear that all his worst fears had come true; the ship had suffered heavy damage to its midsection, the sheer weight of the passengers only serving to exacerbate the growing fissure snaking through the body of the ship. Krug pushed his way through the panicked masses as fast as he could trying to reach the grand oak doors that would grant him entry to the deck of the mammoth ocean liner that would surely be his tomb.

After what seemed like an eternity Krug finally fought his way to the door and out onto the deck, trying to ignore the terrified shrieks echoing from behind him he forged on through the crowd of passengers to find a life boat, only to be greeted with a most peculiar sight. Not only were there no life boats to be found, in the teeming waters surrounding the doomed vessel there seemed to be more rowboats, packed with people attempting to reach and board the sinking Herod. This made no sense ‘TURN AWAY WHILE YOU STILL CAN!’ Krug bellowed to the new arrivals, but none of them seemed to listen, the only responses he received being vague mutterings of all the friends and connections they wished to meet and make.

The deck at this point was dangerously close to the waters surface, the bowels of the ship and all the souls that resided therein were likely already lost. But then something in the corner of Krug’s vision caught his eye. He turned and surveyed the horizon. What was that? Could it be?.. ANOTHER SHIP! Closer and closer it came until Krug was finally able to discern the wording on its prow the USS Stalagg, Surely a more majestic vessel Krug had never seen. It pulled in along the port side of the stricken Herod and a group of Blizzard uniformed sailors dropped several gangplanks from its deck leading down to the now waterlogged deck of its sinking sister.

‘Quickly!’ one of the sailors yelled, ‘Come with us if you want to play classic!’. Krug, only too happy to oblige quickly clambered up the nearest gangplank, not looking back as not to slow down the inevitable throng of people wishing to abandon the sinking ship. Once safely on the deck of the Stalagg, Krug turned around to see that very few people had actually come aboard the new ship or even made any attempt to move toward the planks leading to the vessel that could ensure their survival…How bizarre.

And so it was, making no attempt to reason with the passengers of the Herod (He couldn’t even think of what to say), Krug merely starred at them blankly as one by one they turned their eyes to the new ship. In silence, arms crossed, frowns set unmoving on each and every face, as one by one the water claimed them.

The End.

Disclaimer: I am not on either side of this debate and have no opinion either way.

All characters portrayed in this story are entirely fictional and any resemblance to persons living or dead is entirely coincidental. (sorry if you are named Krug)

Ganking in the sense of mob ganking yes I’m sure there will be plenty of that and I’m sure there will be those on the rp server who flag themselves for the pvp I’m sure but as a majority pvp ganking won’t be as big of an occurrence as it would be on say a pvp server

Give me a new server to roll on (PvP East Coast) and I’ll move my whole ~40 man group over today.

Blizzard is dead set on only creating new servers when other are full now as opposed to inevitably waiting until Aug 26th when they need to spin up new ones.

Since it will be inevitable that they will need new servers, why even bother until launch day to just create new characters then.

Even if there is, its part of the game. I get pissed when I used to get ganked and camped. Now if it happens which is rare even with war mode on, it usually isnt a repeat occurrence. I feel like the majority of the player base isn’t going to be as young as we were back then. Ganking won’t be as bad outside of the streamer server imo.

I’m not sure… is it possible Blizzard hasn’t released new servers or is reluctant to due to funding? Perhaps Blizzard isn’t allowing the Classic team sufficient funding to support more servers until they can prove they are generating sufficient funding to support them? Now that they’ve done so by showing full realms prior to release, they’ll get more funding!

It’s entirely possible that the team wants to release servers and understands the problems better than all of us combined do, but their hands are tied and they can’t reveal any of this because it might paint Blizzard’s other departments (which an outsider wouldn’t even realize exist and group them all under the name of ‘Blizzard’ anyway) in a negative light which would be bad for their public relations or image. A negative image right before a huge launch could hurt them quite a bit. I mean let’s be honest… what would be worse: people knowing that Blizzard doesn’t support Classic by giving it enough money, or that Blizzard’s Classic is FULL? Something tells me the latter would be best since it draws a positive idea that ‘hey, there might be something to this if it’s full!’

I feel that Blizzard’s Classic team is fighting for us and will give us more servers and are keeping us in the dark because it’s frankly their internal battle to fight on our behalves… and they’re doing it! We need to give them support, not grief.

Something that people may not have taken into account. What do you think determines the total number of people that can be logged into a server at one time? Is it RAM? Processor Power? Hard Drive space? Or is it the amount of network bandwidth that goes in and out of the server? Let’s assume that Blizzard had the fastest internet available in 2006. With that, 3-4k people could be logged into a server and sharing i/o information with the server at one time. Fast forward 13 years, the internet is 100 times faster! If that were the ONLY thing that changed, the servers would easily be scalable to service 6-10k people at one time! Rest assured, if Blizzard is telling us that a server is “full” then there could be as many as 50k people signed up for that server… take the hint, and move.

Pagel is full too.

On both PVP and RPPVP servers, you’re not going to have a choice about flagging; you’re going to be flagged automatically outside of starting zones. It’s basically war mode on, but you can’t turn it off.

On PVE and RPPVE servers, you can stay unflagged and be immune to ganking.

So yeah, if you don’t want to be ganked, better stay off of Grobbulus, the RPPVP server.

I honestly don’t understand how anyone can respond with thank you to this post. Being someone who lives on the east coast and wants to play on a PVP server in that timezone…there was no real option on what server to roll on. The streamers took Faerlina and Thalnos was claimed to have a heavy portuguese population. All my friends and I fought login queues for every stress test thinking we were doing our part to give blizzard data. The one test we fought to get in and couldn’t for 6 hours straight just sitting at the queue or failing to create a character. It seems like that was a huge waste of time because they didn’t seem to do anything with that data. Everyone I know fought for 45 min - 2 hours to reserve their names on herod. I’m going to play with my friends, so you bet your bottom dollar I’m staying herod.

it means the realm is at the maximum capacity for the micro ecosystem to sustain. it means adding more players will stain the resources of the realm. it means that players will have higher wait times, log in ques during major releases/ patches/ events. it means server lag will go up. it means the major cities are where they should be. however, from the way it seems Herod might be over full by a significant percent. the other full servers should be with in acceptable parameters. Full does not lock new characters or accounts from going there it mostly lets players know what to expect.

maybe a new tag should be added, “over full” because there are players that are fine with and may purfur a full realm over a medium realm for the lower prices on the AH. the fewer players on the realm the higher the prices because there is less people supplying the goods. the demand might be low too however since a decent profit cant be made by volume it has to be made with fewer sales. which means the supply and demand might not reach an agreement and sellers wont sell a thing and buyers wont buy “over priced goods” which kills the economy to the point you cant get the things you need off the AH and have no choice what so ever than to spam trade bribing people even higher than over price to get it or level another character who can get/ make it for your main /doomsayerrant

with each account creating 3 characters, servers are artificially 3x inflated. For example, i have a name reserved on Herod and will never play there unless i am forced at a later time to transfer if my current realm dies. Im sure everyone is doing the same.

exactly. players should have only been able to reserve 1 name before launch.

Do you honestly think Blizzard didn’t take that in to account and believe that 3x characters on 1 server from 1 account is equal to 3 people playing on that server on launch day? I honestly have no words… use your head, man.
