Overcrowded Realm Update

You skip the part where they said they raised the cap much higher than it was originally in classic? Servers will have more people on them playing when layering is gone and good luck to people trying to mine and herb, unless they go with dynamic respawns on those, which wouldn’t be classic but may happen. Have to see

I wished we had News like this in print:(

I’m not concerned with over population, its the dead servers that bother me. I played Vanilla and faced the problems of a dying server. When you spam all night trying to get a simple BRD run and you do a /who search only to see no tanks or healers are online. Ironforge looking like a ghost town. What will Blizz do to accommodate servers that require more players? Pushing players off of Herod is asking the community to take a leap of faith with what securities? I’m not coming off Herod until Blizzard can give me solutions to a greater problem.

Hmmm i suspect that even if they had opened up, let’s say 20 servers, that the same issue would have occurred.
People were doing a great deal of “research” on Twitch and YouTube right up to and during the reserved name launch.
As soon as people like Asmongold (who has heroes on 2 servers - at leastthat i saw watching him on twitch) showed that he was having at least one of them on Herod, people started flocking to that server with their names.
Who can blame them?
You join a server that he and those like him have joined and you can rest assured, long term, THAT server has legs and will have a healthy pop. for a long time to come.
I guess what I’m saying is that it is highly unlikely that this could have been avoided no mater what scenario that Blizz put forward.

(Public Service announcment: No Asmongolds were hurt during the writing of this post - sorry to use you as an example man but everyone knows who you are so you make a good one)

They already had dynamic respawns in the last stress test. They said it was always supposed to be there but was bugged on their end til this last stress test.

@Kaivax Blizzard should have most definitely started with more servers. Blizzard created the current situation with Herod.

They should’ve. But right now the only thing binding people to Herod are freaking names… the game launches in 10 days… its not like people are lvl 40 or something. Blizzard is warning all players on Herod that the Q times will be eternal AND they are offering a solution by opening a realm prior to the launch…

People are so entitled they think that they’re ‘‘punishing’’ Blizzard by not switching… I personally cannot wait for these exact same players to be whining about 5-8 hour queue times on these very same forums in 2-3 weeks…

they really should have given us 3 names / server… would fix the “binding cause of names” thing.

But limited names at least gives an accurate population estimate I guess.

No, what’s binding people to Herod … or at least my friends and myself is a guaranteed healthy population.

There they go again — thinking about user experience which is the exact mind-set that them into the mess that was every expansion after BC.
Some of us like the idea of having a 5k queue— it makes us feel like we’re logging into something epic. Which is want classic is all about.

You did read what Kaivax said right? A medium server nowadays has more players than the most populated back then. No layer will be empty in P1 and there’s absolutely no way that even a medium pop will have no queues once they remove layering…

Staying on Herod is just a guarantee that you’ll get a humongous Q times at launch AND once layering is taken off the servers.

But you do what you gotta do i guess.

Seems like the folks on Harod have 2 choices move or deal with queues. if your name is that important to you that you are willing to endure multi-hour queue times feel free to stick to Harod. I mean it’s not like ‘legolas’ is remotely common, you could make leggolas or legolass or legollas if you need the exact spelling you want you suffer your own incrajulaty

if you feel entitled to ‘your’ name because you re-subbed, guess what not everyone who resubbed got their prefered name on their prefered server so deal with it, the reservation was NOT a guarantee you get your name.

If you want more reasonable queues or even a chance at no queue better to move now and yes possibly not be able to get your prefered name rather than waiting till P2 and paying for a transfer and still losing your name?

this blue post basically is giving you a week to decide, if you choose to stay be sure to not come here complaining about your queue times ok?

if you have no stake in herod then its easy to move

but a lot of people are trying to coordinate with friends and guilds. seems like people are being purposefully obtuse in ignoring that

Some of the people in this thread are almost sickeningly blind, lol

Blizz is currently doing the right thing in not releasing another server until Stalagg fills up. They want Stalagg to get more full. Understandably on most peoples’ parts, people on Herod do not want to leave because many will certainly lose their reserved names, which are seemingly a huge deal. The name reservations seem to be more important to people than the potential differences in server behavior, which to be honest is super interesting to examine.

I’m 99.9999% certain that everyone in this thread would have an :ok_hand: time on Stalagg if their names were preserved. A few people in here want to play the fullest server possible (hi, I’m one) but I think the experience would be very similar over on Stalagg. I know what I’m in for on Herod, but Stalagg is going to be fine. And it’ll be more fine with each person who makes their way there.

If we’re lucky, a lot of latecomers will go there. This is not the final population. A ton of players will enter Classic without having participated in name reservations at all and you ought to keep that in mind too.

then coordinate the move to stalag. does it suck they released so few servers, yes but at this point what is done is done move or don’t but you’ve been warned.

do you really need it spelled out to you?

apparently I need it spelled out. My friends and family rolled on Whitemane, when it got to high we talked and decided to move to Grobbulus. now Whitemane is full not all of us got our names on Grobb and a few decided to stay on Whitemane because they did not want the RP restrictions but at least we have a shot at not having enormous queues. If you steadfastly won’t leave Harod then deal with the queues no skin off my nose.

Thank you for understanding that you made a big mistake in the real Vanilla release by overreacting and creating far too many servers that quickly died. Your solution these dead servers was CRZ and cross-server everything, which is something we do not want.
