I don’t understand your point. If any server is “MASSIVELY” over populated then yes, they should create a new server with a window of time to xfer from the said massive realm.
There is nothing unreasonable or unfair about it.

I think the release of the Stalagg server was too little too late unfortunately. Herod became the default server for most people looking for a standard experience once Thalnos became the Latin America server and Faerlina became the streamer server. Population distribution of these realms won’t correct itself until after launch when people get frustrated trying to log in to Herod and decide to swap to Stalagg.
Hahahaha that made me laugh a good laugh. Remoting from work
Also, the number of players do join upon launch is unknown. Not everyone who intends to play played the early name lotto. Could get interesting…
No they won’t be making you suffer queues. They are offering knowledge and a way to avoid queues at the end of Phase 1 when layering is turned off. If no one takes the offer then that is not blizzards fault.
If anything Blizz is trying to ensure everyone’s play time is enjoyable, A 10,000+ que time does not sound like that and just imagine what the starting area’s will look like. Oh the QQing that will happen on launch day its going to be GLORIOUS!!!
The hype is so real it hurts, I can’t wait to party like it’s 2006!
You have been warned. Let the warning not go unheeded.
The better approach here may be to let the servers launch with whatever the population is going to be when that time rolls around, then offer up free transfers when phase 2 happens. Once that switch is flipped for layering, players will either tolerate the queues or feel the incentive in a real way to move to another server. Would likely see whole guilds move.
I don’t think the name day event had anything to do with a big cash grab and had more to do with what we are seeing right now. It’s a measurement of how many people will join the servers.
And while I think it would have been better if they opened more servers to begin with, this is better than if they have to do it after launch.
What if I told you the whole name reservation idea IS the warning. They never had to tell you anything. If you chose to play herod it was because you wanted to play on the peoples pvp server, you knew it were to be high pop. If you wanted low pop you would’ve picked any other realm
What they should have done is before opening Stalagg, agree to transfer people to the realm so they can keep their names, then a few days later, open it for people to join.
Agreed,
Blizzard s’d the pooch here.
Do you know how much of a logistical nightmare it would be for me to coorindate with everyone in my guild who now has their names on Herod to switch to a new server?
There should have been more east coast and west coast servers available from the start. Everyone took one look at the server list and immediately thought ‘Ok, where are the rest of them?’
If layer was to ever go away and people are estimating anywhere from 300-700k stable populations, that’s still tens of thousands of players per server… way beyond what any vanilla server was meant to handle at once.
Make more servers so we can transfer. Nevermind that this is JUST people reserving names early. The servers at launch with the majority of the player base actually logging in for the first time is going to force 10k+ queues across every server.
“You are not prepared” Blizzard.
That’s my point: If people keep insisting on piling on Herod, then Blizzard isn’t going to look at it and go “Well I guess we can’t turn off layering”.
They’re just going to turn it off and people will have to enjoy the queues that they created.
I’m not sure what the point would be of making new servers if enough people aren’t already switching over to Stalagg. I agree that they should have had more servers initially, but what’s done is done. I don’t know what they can do now besides begging players to transfer.
People will transfer once the 3 hour wait times hit. They just won’t get the names they want then.
So what your saying is in phase 2 the world PVP will be epic.
Well, Pagel is my backup. I have three toons on three different servers… I don’t think I’ll even try Herod at launch. But I have a sneaking suspicion there will be ques everywhere.
Russia wins the server name game with Chromie!
