Overcrowded Realm Update

Not going to happen. Players can still change realms. The only hesitancy I hear is, “I’ll lose my name.” So pick another name like all the other thousands that didn’t get their wished-for name.

The thing you don’t seem to be getting Kaivax is that the number of people who didn’t want to waste 2 weeks of a subscription just to reserve a name. Additionally those who don’t even know about name reservation and just plan on showing up.

Every single realm will be overcrowded because of this. You can’t just take statistics from the stress test and name reservation and think that will be the majority, I personally believe that is going to be the minority.

The problem with faction balance currently is there is a large portion of players that just quickly logged in and made a name. Didn’t pick their actual toon. Have some of those recreated their toons during off-peak hours? Most certainly, but to get an accurate faction count before launch will be hard.

People took time off from work, and subbed early just to be on when name selection opened up. You don’t comprehend that do you? Most players who have the name they want because of wasting those hours on that day are not going to simply throw it away.

The only way to get people to reroll is open more realms and wipe the names from all the other realms. restart the process because all of the good names are already taken.

@Kaivak … If you were all serious about this then you should have opened the pvp realm to transfers only for 48 hours so people could have kept their names. Maybe you’ll consider this in the future… As silly as it may sound to you and others my name is very sentimental and important to me that I am not willing to transfer from Herod unless you can make sure I keep the name .

I just want a MEGA-SERVER. OK?

Two things are clear to me:

  • Blizzard has grossly underestimated the initial population, and very likely the post 1-month population
  • people are not well inclined to switch servers with their names already spent, need to increase it to 5 names imo.

Well, that is the answer. What is more important to you: long queues or your name. It is what it is. If there are free realm transfers with name reservations, that should apply to all players. Blackmail will not work, i.e. I will not transfer unless you guarantee my name. Then live with the long queues. Sorry, but that is the way it is.

“The world is meant for 2500-3k concurrent players. Megaservers are not vanilla, thats pirate server nonsense and needs to stay there. When you overpopulate you lose the community, and ruin the core parts of the game.”
Absolutely correct. One of the greatest things about classic was the player base self policing and being close knit. Running huge populations will largely negate these factors. 3000, maybe up to 4k, folks on a server in a game world the size of WOW is a pretty good number of players to complete all there is to do. jmo

That’s not blackmail, it’s called telling it like it is. Again nobody is going to throw away names they already locked in unless their entire guilds can somehow migrate over with them and not be upset over losing names. So what’s going to happen is there will be layering beyond phase 2 most likely.

It would be like standing in line all day on black friday and then just arbitrarily deciding I’ll switch to another store. That doesn’t happen at the last minute.

My prediction is a 10k queue is “start wow before leaving for work and hope you don’t miss signing in after dinner that night”
The huge but relatively quick queues on reservation night were people just making characters and then logging off, which made more space.
Once the game is out they won’t be logging off and you are going to be fortunate to find an opening to get on your server.

Lmao no. Why should we have to lose our name? I’d rather wait a few weeks for queues to settle than lose names i’ve always wanted.

Also “not going to happen” says who? You secretly Blizz? No, didn’t think so.

I know Blizzard is fair and what is being proposed is not fair to the entire player base. Herod overpopulation is because it was “planned” by certain players.

They will not keep layering. The queues will simply become much, much worse.

You don’t understand. There will be mostly no queue at launch. After all, layering will take care of that. The SIX HOURS-LONG queue will happen at phase2, months in, when people are already level 40~60.

How is it not fair? Everyone had the same chance to reserve names when name reservations opened. Everyone on Herod won their name fair and square so why is it so unfair to let us keep them?

No one else is being asked to move by Blizzard only Herod players and it’s actually not fair on US to expect us to do so and lose out in the process.

Anyway for Blizzard to communicate faction balance so players that want to maintain an even ratio can make informed decisions regarding moving/not moving to a different realm?

If you truly want people off Herod, the server name needs to be a little more enticing. Thunderfury or something would draw in a lot of the type of players that went to Herod. Most of the Herod population picked it because thats where a demographic went, not just because they picked a random server. Its going to be hard to get them to switch no matter the numbers you throw at them.

There are already 3 full realms. It will only get worse.
