Overcrowded Realm Update

The problem is that they can’t force the streamers to play on any realm. They pay for their subscription just like you and I do and they have the freedom choice of where they wish to play at. If you do not want to play on their realm, best thing to do is keep updates on their streams or Twitter pages on where they may go so you can plan ahead and go onto another realm. Blizzard is not obligated to provide information on where the streamers are going nor are they required to provide information like this. Also, what is stopping someone who is just starting to stream on a “non-streamer” server and then get big and popular over the months? What then? Are they forced to stop playing the character and make a new one on the designated streamer server?

Based on the post you replied, a 10k queue is not “an hour to 2”. It’s more like 7~8 hours waiting to log in. Oof!

Just lock the full server so ppl cant make characters on the over populated server… and maybe open couple more east coast pvp servers.

They should also make classic server forums so ppl can form guilds and groups on said server. I think this would allow ppl to know what guilds are recruiting on what servers and ppl would spread out more.

It is also to reward those who are currently paying a subscription right now with some what of early access to getting their names. I agree this is not a cash grab that most people feel it to be. People ask for rewards for being a current subscriber, well this is one of those perks.

There was a 10k queue for Herod on first name reservation day. I sat in it for 8 minutes

Yea i don’t think people understand that 10-15k Queues are not like ‘‘2 hour of Q time’’ … it’s more around the mark of like 4-8 hours… I guess that if some people are so damn determined on favoring a name over gameplay enjoyment… well i guess i can only say : Enjoy not being able to play for the first 2-4 weeks when you come back from work unless you have someone at home able to get you in Q in the middle of the day.

People were just reserving names not actually logging to play for hours on end. It will completely different when people can actually play.

That’s not the same type of queue. The creation servers were probably using layering themselves, so they could allow almost unlimited connections.

That is because people logged off right after making a name… people weren’t staying online to play… Q goes down when someone leaves the server which frees his spot… Q times wont be NEARLY as fast on launch

Yeesh, well… better log in before work then lol

Players cry about layering —>players coordinate to ensure everyone joins one realm —>blizzard opens a new realm for an alternative —>players with FOMO refuse to swap realms —>blizzard can not remove layering due to 30,000 active players on 1 realm —>players cry about layering not being removed

It’s a circle. Not a triangle or square.

I think the blue post was worded just fine. I totally understand every piece of information presented.

  1. Layering will fall off before phase 2
  2. Medium servers will expect ~5-6k population at once before ques hit. High 6-8k and Full with close or a bit over 10k.
  3. Once layering will be turned off it will strain the headroom hardware has with layering on, so the cap on realm population supported at once won’t be raised further.
  4. Their worry about all the babies that will quit WoW within weeks to half a year, so that won’t open new realms if the expected population in the year of those will fall below 3k.
    Cheers!

Is this assuming that the number of players trying to login will be that of the number of characters created on the server? If so, then you may be under the impression that ~3x the amount of people are actually on the server, seeing as people likely created 3 names on the server.

I, for one, will likely only be playing one at a time, so that should help to keep the overall server population down.

Now, if you’re saying that the sheer number of accounts which have created characters is way too high, then I completely understand the concern.

What you say is true without layering. A 8 hour queue without layering is probably a 1-2 hour queue with layering as all layers are letting players in at the same rate as a non-layered realm…

People thinking this server has not enough players are just crazy. Medium on today’s standard is already awesome and would fill up to full overtime +, it actually is a lot of players already…

Not only that but there is 10 days before the world even starts, it’ll probably be full by that time and, if not, will become shortly after the launch as everyone subscribes back to WoW.

Layering basically removes queues. If the layer is full, another one is created and new connections are directed to it. The REAL queues will only happen on phase2 when layering is removed. Then 10-15k queued-realm players will sit for ~8 hours to log in.

only 8 mins because ppl log on to to reserve name and log off.

I believe Blizzard has set a cap on the number of layers per realm.

It could indeed affect the Q times a bit but I don’t think it will matter as much.

In the end, 1 player leaving = 1 player loging on. If the server is already full it means all the layers are full. So wether you have 4 layers of 3k players or 1 layer of 12k players, as long as the flow of player is the same i don’t think the Q speed will actually change. I might be wrong about this though as i’m no server expert.

They didn’t post this because queues are going to be 30 minutes.

The situations already bad. If people don’t leave now, it’s only going to get worse on launch.
