Most of us use them. Whether cosmetic or combat related, they offer some level of QoL improvement. The question is, do we need them, or do we want them? I only use cosmetic add-ons and the occasional quest helper. But if M+ gamers and raiders claim to be 3000+ rated and often “bored”, it stands to reason the add-ons are essentially walking them through combat.
Before the days of DBM and MDT, we played til we got it right. Now, the add-ons tell you how to get it right. Is it really skill at that point when you are told when to move or interrupt and where to stand?
I don’t disagree that the game design is flawed and there are a lot of notifications that should come up in the native UI. i’m just not impressed by anybody with a 3300+ rating who essentially used an add-on to get there.
This is of course, just my opinion, but it was worth stating. People are free to disagree with me, but at the end of the day long before any of these tools were available to us we had to make do with very basic add-ons and get most of our information from a knowledge base or a YouTube video if we were so inclined. I think removing combat add-ons would challenge the player base more and show us who really knows what they’re doing and who’s just really good at following directions.
I never said it played the game for you. I said it told you how to play the game. If you’re going to correct my statement or laugh at it, please do so with accurate information.
MDT will give you the fastest possible and safest routes while also highlighting the amount of NPC you need to kill for the timer. DBM will tell you when to move out of the fire and when something is incoming to avoid it or soak it. there were also several interrupt notifications.
I feel like raiding and mythic dungeons are definitely two different beasts. I also feel like PVP shouldn’t have any combat add-ons because PVP is intended to display player skill.
I believe some players have grown dependent on some of the add-ons that are out there and are largely carried by them. And of course if they feel threaten they may lose those add-ons they lose their minds over it.
Your OP suggests the removal of combat addons. It’s not going to happen. Some people rely on addons not only for visual aid, but to get an idea of how to play their class without the addon telling them how to play it.
If you want snide comments, have you looked in a mirror?
For more context for something you clearly don’t understand, addons have been in the game since launch. They’re not going anywhere.
Use or don’t. But do not throw a rotten idea out suggesting for people to play the game differently.
