It is interesting. One of the most common inspirations for orcs in Warcraft are the hordes of Turco-Mongol conquerors who swept across Eurasia throughout much of the late medieval period, many of whom had magnificient beards, so I am quite confused as to why early orcish archetypes in Warcraft would not draw from that inspiration. It may be because early orcs were more or less depicted as savage demonic aberrations, I daresay the inclusion of facial hair would have contrasted severely with that depiction.
Very amusing, madam. While i wish to be inclusive I had made this thread in mind to specifically bring attention to the distressing lack of full beard options male orcs currently have and to rectify it.
Thank you. Just this morning I was thinking that if my orc wanted to reach up and thoughtfully stroke his beard while mired in thought over the global afterlife crisis, he would be quite unable to find enough beard to do so with. The very thought reduced me to a melancholic state and filled me with despair.
Well I guess Blizzard doesn’t allow us to “be” our characters. Our characters and our real world selves are different. Meaning our characters have a culture given to them and we can’t control them enough to make them have beards or styles outside of their culture.
Which is why Blood Elves don’t have Human hair options and vice versa for Humans. Culture is weird and since the evolution from Vrykul to Human the culture has not remained intact, naturally.
Do I agree with this? No. It would be amazing if there were more options for all races and we didn’t have to Role Play a character all the time. Sometimes I just want to have a character of my own and not something Blizzard forces on me narratively. Especially with the questlines.
I mean, people still argue about Garrosh being written wrongly as a villain when Blizzard pointed out that he was never supposed to be positive and that the Stonetalon storyline was a miscommunication and isn’t part of his character.
So I would say unless Blizzard corrects or removes it, they may have a point.
Were I able to do so, Tombouctou, I’d happily help ya grow a great big beard like us dwarves can. I’m all for spreading the joy of facial hair.
I still to this day find it funny the barber in Ironforge is a goblin. No offense to the lass, but based on my knowledge of dwarves very few would probably ever let a goblin, or a non-dwarf, touch their beard. lol
I agree, but let us kindly agree to keep the focus primarily on orcs, even if those other races are deserving of attention as well.
Thank you Thorland. Perhaps you would be willing to share the secrets of your beard-growing prowess with us? Is there some sort of magical incantation or tonic one can ingest to jump-start beard growth?
Madam, you wound me. I daresay were Blizzard not so hellbent to deny orcs the means with which to grow facial and eyebrow hair, I would be able to grow the thickest and most lustrous eyebrows one would ever dare lay eyes on.
Everyone should have full beards, but I mainly want one to go with the new necrolord cosmetic set in 9.1 to kind of match how Gothic the Harvester looks.
