Hear me out:
Shrek was highly profitable. The Warcraft Movie flopped. Therefore, Shrek draws more money in than Warcraft.
So if Blizzard make Orcs similar to Shrek, WoW gets more players and sells more merchandising, which means there will be more money to invest in quality content.
Shrek leads to better Raids.
EDIT: If you’re here to say “Shrek is an Ogre”, please don’t. I’ve addressed this plenty of times already and answering the same thing over and over again is boring.
Luxuria:
While that’s true, Ogre is just a word. It may very well mean one thing in one setting and another thing in another setting.
The fact is that Shrek is way closer in size, appearance and intelligence to Warcraft Orcs than he is to Warcraft Ogres.
Plus the words “Orc” and “Ogre” were originally the same word. They both originate from “Orcus”, the Etruscan god of the underworld.
Luxuria:
Like, imagine if they decided to add Dobby from Harry Potter to WoW.
Dobby is an Elf. Except the Elves from Harry Potter are a lot closer to WoW Goblins than they are to WoW Elves. What Race would WoWDobby be? Blood Elf or Goblin?
I would say Goblin.
Words are just words. The substance is more important.
Luxuria:
It’s always messy when you try to convert people from one fantasy setting to another fantasy setting. That’s because there’s no hard rule of how these fictional races are supposed to be across different authors.
(Except Humans. Humans are always easy lol)
For example: Lots of Japanese fantasy settings have Orcs being pig people and Kobolds as dog people.
If they were to add these Pig Orcs and Dog Kobolds to WoW, they would probably switch them to Quillboar and Vulpera respectively, because maintaining the fantasy is more important than maintaining the name.
Luxuria:
Yeah, but meaning changes depending on the circumstances.
Shrek exists in a different universe, that has different things. Shrek Ogres are closer to Warcraft Orcs than they are to Warcraft Ogres. Shrek is not a giant. He isn’t stupid. He isn’t part of the Roman Empire. He is a slightly tall green guy of average intelligence who is friends with a bunch of fantasy characters that have nothing in common (basically what the Horde is lol).
Another example of how words change meaning from universe to universe: In Dragon Quest, an Orc is a pig man. In Warcraft, the Orcs are the Orcs and the Pig men are called “Quillboar”.

No one wants to kill Shrek. So that’d be a problem.

What about Lord Farquaad, Prince Charming, the Fairy Godmother and the villains from the other movies?
(I only watched the first two, so I don’t know the other villains. Soz!)
All those characters in that list with three characters would be perfectly at home in the Alliance, so it’s all fine.
SomeBODY once told me…
WoW needs more SmashMouth.

Idk what it’s called, but I’m sure that’s some kind of fallacy. Might be the no true scottsman fallacy.
Shrek was an Ogre, and Ogres in WoW aren’t green!
Also, I’m pretty sure Disney wouldn’t be too happy with the copyright infringement.
Shrek is an Ogre. And not even the best type of Ogre.
also, Ogres in WoW don’t have layers.

I like both orcs and Shrek and if they had some combo I think I would like them too, they could all come on over, Elmyouu would have a great meal time

I HATE Shrek, the first movie wasn’t bad. The second movie the donkey was getting on my nerves. The third movie made me angry. The writer wrote the third movie, because I knew him and he thought I was blase’ about divorcing my wife.
What he did not include in the movie, was Shrek’s wife’s new boyfriend. actively trying to kill him by poisoning the food in the refrigerator and cutting the brake lines on the Shrekmobile.
Shrek left the wife and kids because she was an evil bad person IRL.
And I personally feel , you should take every opportunity to party with the biker witches, in spite of what the movie says.
They tried making a shrek-like race. They’re called Kul Tiran and they’re extremely unpopular. Turning them green wouldn’t save them
Did better than almost any other video game based movie ever made and made 439+ million in the box office.
