So I’ve posted awhile back about updated models/animations/effects with… Mixed responses mostly “No.” “Go back to retail.” “the models are ugly.” “No changes, slippery slope.”
Fair enough. Its not for everyone. Some have even offered a toggle for those that want it, but the limitations of the code. It isn’t compatible with the old models. All valid reasons. I have seen private servers with the new models. Retail has the current models and everything and its working fine.
Here’s what I propose. Let Blizzard give the files of the updated graphics overhaul to those that want it. Purely as a download given by Blizzard. It only affects those that download it so they can see the updated models, animations, spells, all of it.
I’m no expert in modding but I remember recently they changed the files in game to something that’s more compressed or something? Making it so that it can’t really just go in and change the models yourself. Which is against the ToS anyway. BUT if Blizzard gave you that file with those changes on it you’d only see it on your computer.
Here’s where it gets messy and how I’d like it to be implemented.
Easiest way is the shop. What I’d like is for it to be free. Since that’s what it was in retail. A free update. Deep down in my gut I feel like Activision Blizzard wouldn’t capitalize on this. But I’m hopeful it won’t… Not as hopeful as a graphics mod released by Blizzard for TBC Classic.
As far as the reason why I would want this is just I’d like TBC to look how I felt it did back in the day. A new coat of paint doesn’t effect game play in the slightest. For me it makes it that more immersive. I like the updates and the customization options that they added. I’ve liked other games that released with updated graphics with the same game play. Spyro comes to mind and I’d like that for TBC is all.
Constructive thoughts please. What would be an easier way for Blizzard to give us this mod? Without a forced update. Probably some thought from Blizzard would be nice but this post will fade into oblivion and forgotten soon enough.
If you don’t want the graphics for WHAT ever reason. The solution is to simple not download the file. You get everything you want on initial release… As far as graphics go anyway.
